Belt Types - Tooth Shapes

Hi,

I set out to change the belts on my turbo yesterday, having had to drive to three different Eurocarparts branches to assemble the bits on Saturday that should have been on my doorstep in one box on Thursday morning - Bunch of Total w&nk£r5 that they are.

I got the belts off and have found that the tooth shape on the balance belt is different to the belt that was on there. The new belt is a conti sport belt, and it has three pictures of different belt shapes on the box - but they aren't labelled as being separate part numbers, or even referred to by different names - does anyone know if that means that they are all equivalent? - My new belt has a rounded tooth x section, rather than the trapezoid x sectino on the old belt. Intrestingly the old and new cam belts both have the round pattern.

The other question I have is aroudn the tensioner roller. Having taken all my rollers off I feel I made the right decision in buying new ones - all of the old ones rattle like crazy. The question is that the tensioner roller on the car right now is much thicker than the new one - about 8mm thicker (axially). I wouldn't be bothered because the belt is narrower than the old and the new ones, but the offset is 4mm out on the new one (measured from the lip at the back edge of the roller to the bearing surface (metal) on the front of the roller on the axle where it bears on the tensioner). Does anyone reckon its a good idea to space this out by uinsg 4mm of washers?

Thanks for any advice!

PS Massive thanks to Paul Pal944 for the loan of his tools - would never have got the water pump out without the pin spanner, to get the balance sprockets off and wouldn't have got anything out without the long breaker bar you lent me...
