Belt warning light

Hi

During a 40 mile drive yesterday the belt warning and exclamation light came on.
After stopping and checking the belt (everything was ok) I carried on driving and after about 5 miles the light went out.

Nothing happened when the car was taken out the following day.

Is this something to be concerned about? and if so has anyone any remedies?

Thanks

Rob

Hi,

I'd first check to see if your fan belt is loose. If not, then it's probably the Fan Belt sensor (it's a wheel that presses against the belt & when the belt breaks the wheel springs out & trips a microswitch which turns on the warning light.

A common cause of this problem is the connector to the sensor. Try removing it and check the pins for dirt or corrosion.

The microswitch may also have failed which will also turn on the fan belt warn light.
