Belts - Chain - Waterpump

Hi,

I want to replace all the belts pulleys, cam-chain and tensioner pad, water pump and the cam cover seals and gaskets on my 1990 S2 Cab.

Can anyone recommend the best place to get these parts at a good price?

Also need a cubby for the centre console in black leather if anyone has one?

Many thanks

Antony

As above but also OPC. For an S2 then Rose passion is the best choice for your pump. http://www.rosepassion.com/en/sel/?ploopi_url=N0dG4l3aMJJJz7vHakUu02qtH0ZxX1OIvkE9AV4wPrubzIa4nSx-Ww%2C%2C

However are you sure it needs a new pump or are you just playing safe ?

Are you doing the work yourself ? Or are you going to a specialist?

Supplier's FAQ is a good place to start....[&:]

Rose Passion aren't in there, are there enough satisfied customers to include them?

Basically, the advice is always the same. Call a PC first, Leicester is very good, ask for Glenn. Many parts are Porsche-only, so sellers will be buying them from Porsche and adding a mark-up.

Once you have the PC price, shop around to see if it's available new for less.

If new is ridiculously expensive, go used. Se the "used parts" FAQ. [:)]

Thanks,

I will get a quote from OPC first. Then compare with the others.

I am lucky enough to have done a deal with a local German car specialist who needed a few days of IT work.

In return they offered to do all the work if I get the parts.

I have tons of history for the car and belts are 4 years old so really need changing.

I can't find any history for cam chain, tensioner pads or water pump so I think on 102k miles it's best to do the lot while I had the offer of a free job.

It may be a bit of overkill but a few years peace of mind is worth it.

Then I can start worrying about the hood, dampers track rod ends afm etc etc etc

If your getting the work done for free then do the lot.As long as they have done a 944 or better still an S2 before.

Paul both Rob Dimmond and I have used Rose Passion for pumps. They are Lasso pumps at a great price with very good service and a fast turnaround. I wouldn't go past them for a water pump.

I also used RosePassion for Pump, belts and pulleys. Great service, immediate response to email queries, super fast delivery and good quality parts.

I'm glad this question has been raised, i'm preparing for these jobs on my 1990 S2 also. I was mainly interested in what work should be done and therefore what parts i'd need to source.

"belts pulleys, cam-chain and tensioner pad, water pump and the cam cover seals and gaskets"

Would these jobs normally be done at the same time?

Cam cover gaskets and seals at the same time as the chain and tensioner pad.
Water pump at the same time as the belts and pulleys.

Cam cover gaskets and seals at the same time as the chain and tensioner pad.
Water pump at the same time as the belts and pulleys.

Oil seals on the pulleys as well? I only say this, having needed a second cambelt after one year, as there was oli contamination.

I guess the rule of thumb with any old car is "if it's not been changed recently, and it's easier when you're in there, do it"!

Oh no more parts needed by the sound of it!

Does anyone know the part number for the pulley seals?

I will add them to my rose passion order.

Ant

I'm not sure of the part number but there is a seal kit for all 944/968 models that is about 50 quid. Since there are differences between the models, it has some seals that you won't use. I would certainly do it if you're doing the water pump and there is no recent history, as others have said.
I've been very impressed by Rose Passion, they certainly get my vote to go in the FAQ, I would still try OPC first and shop around some of the others.

The flywheel lock special tool is essential for doing this job. There are lots of ways to avoid a flywheel lock, most of them silly and guaranteed to cause damage.

I've had a look on Rose Passion to price things up...

Timing Kit EUR 224.40
Water Pump EUR 229.20
Water Pump Gasket EUR 4.08
Timing Chain EUR 21.72
Set of Seals EUR 168.00

I can't see Tensioner Pads on there but have seen them elsewhere for approx GBP 80.00

Does this cover all the parts i need?

Do i really need a full set of seals because EUR 168.00 sounds like a lot?
