Hi all looking to buy a short shift kits for my 04 Boxster it's the 2.7 228 version so 5 gears not 6.
Was wondering what is the difference between the BAD versions of the "classic" and the "racing" short shift kits from Ben in France are ?
Does anyone have any experience of these kits and do they both take the factory gear knob or do you need to change it ? And if so what with? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated before I make my final decision,, thanks in advance allđź‘Ť

Might be tricky, but have you driven a car with a short shift fitted?
In my experience not a good idea, but personal taste maybe though my experience is of trying 3 kits on my old 1973 911.
I finished up re-fitting the standard shifter.

Did Porsche do a model with a short shift that you can fit?

Maybe contact a specialist that prepares racing Boxsters for their take?

As above, but something else to consider is that when cold the ’box will feel more baulky until the oil has warmed-up. Given the car’s age the synchro will be getting worn, and the short-shift most likely will aggravate the wear rate … on 2nd and maybe 3rd gears in particular?

Just my take on it of course.

Fair point guys...I'll look in to it a bit more but has anyone fitted one and found out it's better??? Just curious.

All the short shift kits I've tried on my old 911 give the same issues (for me).

Slower gear shifts as the hand movement needs to be accurate when in a hurry, and the effort to change gear increases..

It follows the simple equation

Work done = force x distance.

Work done is the effort to go from gear to gear which does not change in this conversion, the distance is less so to balance the effort you need to apply more force.

This is why Porsche and all manufacturers design for the purpose of the car.
The effort to change gear in my stock 987.2 is far greater than my wife's Skoda Citigo town car.
