Hi Guys, Can anyone offer advice on what is the best pad / disk combination for best performance on the road? Mine need changing and i wondered if there were any other options apart from the standard Porsche ones.
Many thanks,
Ian

I think Ian is looking for advice on something like EBC Greenstuffs or suchlike. I've heard they are very good, but I can't find them for the 996, I would be interested in what people suggest too.

Re read the original post and I think you may be right.....

That said for road use the standard set up is more than adequate, I've just been down to Le Mans following my diy disc and pad change and have no quibbles at all during some fast road use[;)]

IMO I'd stick to OEM disck and pads unless trackdays are a regular occurance. Just found aftermarket disks and pads wewn ar out too fast on the road (cars and bikes)

I gave the stock brakes a real hard time while at Nurburgring and they were fine. just warm them up and cool them down after gently.

I've heard good things about the Pagid Fast Road pads, but no personal experience I'm afraid. Agree with Paul, though, as I've never had any issues with the Porsche (Textar) pads.

OK, many thanks everyone. I think I'll go for the Serbo disks and Textar pad combo. Only one other question and thats about the rusting..... I know someone else mentioned it a while ago and that is one of the mains reasons for looking to change the lot in one go. The inside edges of my disks are corroded and affecting the braking performance. Will the replacements be the same?

It will be worse with non OEM discs. Stick with OEM is my advice based on experience.

In my opinion, and I have been guilty of this myself, corrosion is exacerbated by not using the car regularly, I used to wash the car dry the brakes off by a swift driveround the block and then put the car away in the garage sometimes for weeks on end. When I took the old discs off I was really surprised by the amount of corrosion on the inner surface and grooves worn into the pads.

This year I've used my car more regularly and have got into the habit of washing when I take it out, but not before I put it back when I know I'm not going to be using it for any period of time.

So far on the new pads and discs I've not had any problems at all.
