best drive of my life

Not in a 944 though unfortunatley, been up to North Wales (Snowdonia) and the views from the roads by Snowdon are quite frankly stunning.

Where to start......

Probably the run to Portmeirion last year in the 944 - it was a lifetimes ambition to go there and to own a 944 so it was doubly great. The roads through Wales are fantastic, as long as you don't have to wait for the sheep to cross the road!

But, the overnight run to the Swiss border in the Legacy last year was also special, open A-roads all the way and almost no cars in the way....[:)] Yes, it was dark so there was no scenery but to have the open road with no distractions was something special. Dogs had a look of wide-eyed amazement when they woke up!

I've had a couple of really good drives through cornwall and Dartmoor on various roads not sure what ones or where they were as such.
In 2 weeks I'll be off to the Isle Of White for 2 weeks is there any good roads there?

went to portmeirion only to find "no dogs" so never got to find out what that was like

oh and the snowdonia roads were going through http://www.llanberis.org/ for anyone interested

Best drive for me had to be the roads in Scotland when we went there last October. I posted on there with some photos a while ago, but the photos are here:

We do a Scripture Union Beach Mission every summer in early August which is in Abersoch, on the end of the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales, and getting there and back is always a high point for me ... superb roads, but you DO need to be careful to keep away from the tender mercies of Brunstorms' Bobbies. I have had more than one nastily close shave ...

Oli.

sorry but it was in an MGB which I had seriously modded .All the way to Milford West in Wales from Bath .I did it in the early hours of the morning in 1978 at a steady 125mph with a motorcycle for company. Not another car on the road, Did it in some ridiculous time [:(]

then slept out under the stars on the edge of a clifftop

best drive in a 944 was bringing my first Lux home from Sussex in 1996 I was totally in awe for weeks after.

Now the IOM, that is a different matter...[:D]

I have driven the TT course a few times and also the road that runs over the mountain from East to West is fantastic [:D]

My car started to develop a squealing noise from the left hand side on some sections of the road, but as soon as I slowed down a little my wife was quiet again[;)]

Its all 40mph limit on the IOW and busy in tourist season. Nice pace to visit but not great driving.

Are you sure? Unless this has changed since I was there last there were definately national speed limit sections outside the towns.
The are some great drivers roads on the south of the island and at this time of the year you should be able to make some good progress [:D]

Well I sure hope that good progress can be made at times anyways as I'll be there for 2 weeks with the 944. I've been there before quite a few times but I was younger and can't really remember the roads.
