Best Fuel

Hi All

As a fairly new owner of a 996 2003 Cabriolet, I was wondering which type of unleaded fuel is best to use. A fellow C2 owner friend of mine swears by the '99 Super Unleaded' but would like to gauge people's opinion.

Thanks

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Welcome to the forum.

Nice car! Very good choice [;)] (not that I am biased in anyway!!)

I have always used Shell V-Power. I suppose any high octane fuel would be good if you have a preference. Everyone has their own experiences and I am aure you will get some other opinions from others.

I once did a trial with V Power as my 997 'pinked' on normal unleaded. Though V power cost more, I got better fuel economy. I think I actually broke even. I always use V power petrol now (except in my diesel Q3!) [:D]

I put in anything 98 Ron or above apart from supermarket stuff. I have put 95 when desperate due to lack of filling stations but didn't like it placebo effect on or off.

shell v-power everytime, best fuel out there[8D]

I always use Shell V-Power in my performance cars.

I will only use other super unleaded (97/98/99 RON) fuel if I am desperate and can't find a Shell. Even then, I will only put a small amount in, enough to get me to a Shell station [:D]

i use shell v power in my 987 since i have had it 3 1/2 years after a mate who has a type r civic told me it is better ,in my old 986 s i used 98 ron super market fuel never had any problem with either i also use v power in my bikes both road and off road ones

Shell V-power every time for me. (well, apart from the once I had to put in £10 worth of BP Ultimate to get to a shell garage about 3 years ago).

IIRC it's one of the few fuels that comes from a specific Shell refinery near Runcorn, rather than supermarkets who just shop around / get the cheapest on a week-by-week basis.

Even my mechanic says there's no reason to worry but I still feel exactly the same way as you. [;)]

I always use Shell V Power but have used Tesco Ultimate 99 with good results. This is the only car I have noticed the difference in the way it drives when running on 95 octane after being forced to use it due to lack of Super.

I also quite liked the Texaco Super on the occasion that I used it but Shell is what I use in the main.

For info, I used to live on the Isle of Man and Super just wasn't available. Ran my Quattro on 95 without problems although owners manual says use 98 min only. I haven't bought petrol there for 12 years or so but they didn't have storage facilities for anything but 95 and diesel. Might be different now but they do sell a few Porsches there.

VPower too, and agree that the Texaco fuel provides performance too - but not economy. Settled with VPower as Shell station is my local. Easy life..
