Porka944s

Hi all,
I haven't been on here in ages. After my insurance ran out (Hagerty refused to renew as they moved the goal posts to being 30 not 25) i parked the 944 in the garage, dirty and left it there since, the MOT has even expired now. It's been a fair old while now, at least 3 months i guess, but i went out to look at it today, i have been so close to putting it on Ebay and just letting it go. It started first time, i was proud of it. Me and the missus have a baby on the way in April and i thought it'd have to go as i needed the money, but things aren't so bad so i think i'll keep it. Either way it needs to be insured, who is good out there now on a classic policy, i'm 27, only want about 2k miles a year. Any suggestions. either way once its insured, ill get the MOT, then i'll get it serviced and finally sort out the body work grumbles. All so i can love it again.

Hope someone can help,

Mark

P.S i was only paying about £250 before so i'd really need it around that figure again.

You could try Classic Line.

Mine is £350 for 5,000 miles, £11,500 value (yes, I know!!) and all my mods declared.

But then I'm even older than Mark [8|]

I am 27 insured with Adrian flux 944 turbo with roll cage, coil overs and engine mods declared. £380. 2000 miles

Classic Line, got my BMW with them , yet Footman James for the 944's though they were silly money for a friend who wanted his 944 Turbo and 964 Anniversary covered, linited miles ,garaged, and in a low risk area just a couple of miles away from me ?
The pair of mine were £182 FC,Agreed Value,Unlimited Mileage and all mods declared.

Thanks so much guys that gives me a few lines to follow and if i could get it for £180 that'd be a dream!

Lancaster will insure virtually any car from the early 90s and before for £210 with 5000k limited mileage, I have checked and even 5litre cars go through at this cost. They are on moneysupermarket too. They dont like mods though.

I just got a quote off of Lancaster £184 couldn't believe it, i think that'll be my xmas present to myself in the new year!

I was with Lancaster last year but with RH this year, £118 and better cover than Lancaster.

I'm 30, 3k miles per year.

This thread depresses me. You know what my cheapest quote was?

£800 per year!

38 year old man, no points, never claimed before. I have zero no claims as I have not owned a car for over 5 years. But all because I live in London and the car is parked on the road :(

I agree RH.

Have been with Lancaster but these were better. Mine 944 is about £180 and the Evo 4 £200 for 5k miles, upto 3 months Euro cover, breakdown home and abroad, £5 mill personal etc. This even has the missus on both.

944 Mot'f but not taxed at present but the cheap insure means that I can keep it insured whilst not using.

Another vote for footman and James, 27 yrs old no NCB needed, garaged and limited to 3000 miles....£198. I was well chuffed and it was one of the biggest reasons i got the 944.

Does anyone have experience of if you need to up the mileage slightly if your coming to your limit, what do companies like footmans normally charge?

It is always worth trying some of the every day companies, but not Direct Line as they need a full alarm system.

I am with Aviva insured as daily car, 10,000 miles, SDP + limited business use kept on the drive way, although it is actually garaged, £250 this year. As a new customer you can get it cheaper as they do get 2 months free and when using a cash back website like Top Cash back you get some back. I got £70 the first year. This is with no alarm, car worth £2k for a 40 year old with full no claims.

Otherwise RH and Classic Line are both good as I have used them for the 911.

I can only get £914 with footman james, on a 6000 limit, garaged and 4 years no claims. I was hoping for it to be my daily driver but all of the quotes were over 1k, or £989 with kwik fit. I dont have another car so can't get in with the classic policies.

That's a real shame as one of the major benefits of having your Porsche as a second car is the classic car insurance.

I really detest the insurance premiums when they appear disportionate to the value of the car. I'd probably not have bothered with my 944 if the annual insurance premium was a quarter or a third of the car value. I love it but not the extent I'd pay for something that seemed at odds with the risk presented to the insurer.

I must say I'm still suprised at the cost in view of garaged status AND 4 years no claims. Was 3rd party cover available and a feasible option for the first year or two? Risky but perhaps worth considering...

iv not looked at third party protection to be honest although that might be an idea. My first car was a peugeot 106 1.1 with no mods or anything I payed £2700 for the insurance. Insane. I need to get to WH Smith to get a couple of porsche mags for porsche specialists.

For anyone else around my age. I just added my dad as an additional driver and I am now seeing quotes for around £800 from companies that offered me insurance for £2100 for example.
