Best lightbulbs? (non-HID)

I've been following the other thread on HIDs with some interest, but without spending the big moolah, what is the consensus on the best H1 lightbulbs available? I used to run Raybrig lights on my previous car which were simply awesome (mainly because of their superior reflector design), but I suspect that my options on the 993 are somewhat limited.

Common bulb options are Osram Silverstars or Philips Vision Plus... what do you guys (and gals!) say? Any other bulbs worth recommending?

TIA

those Osram Silverstars are the best.. even won the autoexpress bulb test.......

I actually got mine from ebay for £15....

and a clean of the inside of the lamps then make all the difference !

What do you clean the inside of the lamps with? One of my 944 lamps is a bit dusty inside and I don't want to make it worse by smearing or scratching the relective surface?

mine were already fairly bad...

I used a soft cloth, but you can use Meths, etc but stay well clear of the bulb !

as the 993 seems to have a vented design I was shocked at how dirty they were, which I only saw when I opened up the units..

Hi
This is for Maurice.
Prompted by this bulb debate and the dreadful night drive I had the other week, I have decided new bulbs is a good idea. Looking on the powerbulbs site it seems that the low/dip bulb is the same as the main bulb, is this right Maurice?
Many thanks and kind regards.
Peter

Halfords 50% brighter are good too.

FYI, I was not happy with the yellowness of the marker lamps next to the fogs. They just looked so useless and dull under the headlamps, now I have a BMW bulb that improves the Porsche part by 6 watts : 10 watts in total. Looks much better IMO

The BMW part number is : 63-31-1-375-003
