I could get mine refurbed like the below which could look good:

I like the turbo look alloys and have no problem with them, but it I keep them I will get them refurbed, so I've been thinking of maybe just buying a new set instead if there are others which will look better.

It's a toughy, I took my car to a friends garage last night to get it on the ramps, on the way past the train station car park I saw a dark blue 996 convertible with a hard top and gt3 style alloys, but they didn't suit this particular one!
It's a touch choice, as the last thing I want to do is buy a set of alloys and then fit them and they don't look right. I know what you mean about zenith, it can be quite dark in some light and with all black alloys it may just look like a dark mass under the arches.
The grey ones or in anthracite would look good?
I'd have to say that the GT3 wheels probably look a little better but I love the fact that the turbo wheels are so easy to keep clean. I also think I prefer to keep the car looking like a 'C2 with factory aerokit' rather than a 'GT3 replica' (no GT3 badge on the rear for me!)
I'm crossing my fingers for you that you don't damage your front bumper once it's on....I read in your suspension post your wheel arch clearance was down to about 20mm....I have the factory M030 sports suspension which lowers the car by 10mm (+/-10mm)....my crude measurements suggest mine sits close to -20mm....and my dimension from top of wheel to wheel arch is 40mm (you don't measure the ride height like this of course but I thought I'd quote it as a comparison for you).
I have to remove the front lip from my bumper to get the car off my drive...and I have hardly any slope on the drive at all (when it meets the road the road slopes back up the other way, again only at a very shallow angle).
Really enjoying all your posts/photos etc... Keep up the good work

I have the 18" turbo look wheels on my zenith blue C2 (as ordered by the original owner). I also have the factory fitted aerokit...

Ahhhh a fellow Zenith C2 owner with an aero kit and turbo look alloys - glad you are finding the posts interesting
My turbo look alloys are factory too as are the skirts, but sadly no factory bumper or spoiler for me
Looking at your Avatar your car looks really good and the alloys do suit it, would you have any other pics you could post up?
Regarding ride height - agreed, a crude way to measure, but it apears mine was already around about m030 height, yours doesn't look that high though?
I re-measured last night to see how it was settling, I think all corners have settled now and we are looking around 23mm from middle of the tread pattern to the arch, so a little over 20mm drop for me which is about what I wanted. Regarding ground clearance though, I'm going to fit the bumper before spraying and measure the ground clearance up front in the garage following your input. Hopefully it will be ok, but there is no point fitting it if it will get destroyed I thought the gt3 bumper only came as low as the existing black plastic fins on either side?
Cheers,
I don't generally have a problem with clearance at the front as long as I leave the front splitter off the bottom of the front bumper. With it on it just catches the pavement as the rear of the car rises up the opposite slope on the road.....you can see from my avatar there's hardly any slope on my drive!
And you're right, the lowest point is at the sides, but its the overhang in the middle that's most likely to ground out, without the splitter this is a little higher than the sides of the bumper...
The underneath of the front bumper shows signs of scraping....probably from the previous owner as he lived in a street full of speed bumps!
A couple of pictures....
Cheers
Stuart
My turbo look wheels are 7.5J/ET50 and 10J ET65.
Those "GT3 style" wheels you like the look of are just that.....GT3 style.
The offsets on those are 47/55.....the proper GT3 wheels should have the 50/65 offsets.
I know when I was considering a change I was only looking for matching offsets to keep life simple....

Your car sits well - much better than mine was and the height looks about the same as mine tbh (well there is only a few mm in it).
I've just sorted my anoying squeek since putting it back together - dry bumpstop from washing it, silicone grease wasn't up to the job - lesson learned. Bumper should be delivered tomorrow, then it's a quick test, hopefully body shop time and the spacers should be here soon
I'll get some pics of the progress up as soon as those couple of bits are done, hopefully we can all make a call on how it looks and what it needs to finish it then instead of rushing in

If you do think about changing to the GT3 wheels check the sizes and offsets.

Aha, thanks for the tip
Looking at that side view of your car has made me think there isn't really any need to change them tbh, perhaps just get them re-furbed so they are mint (fronts are ok, rears are a bit scathed). Anthracite turbo look wheels may be the way to go.....
If you have Photoshop you could always start experimenting on a photo of your car with different wheels/colours to see what you think...

I just wasn't sure about the look of the rear spoiler at first tbh, I prefer the aero spoiler on Ade's that came from the factory with the GT3 aero kit (same they have on the convertibles). I also really like the smooth rear look - I actually used to de-spoiler many of my other cars because I didn't like them and wanted a smooth look instead (the MG was actually one of the first I left a spoiler on). Same with Imprezas, they aren't really my cup of tea, but look so much better without the pram handle on the back lol. I can't deny that your car looks good though, so I am a little confused.
It's strange, because if I search around the net what looks good on one 996 may not look good on another - you wouldn't think it would be that hard right?

The GT3 bumper was delivered today - was pleased to see it had the stamp and official part no on it and was in great order Bit of a bargain too, ended up getting it for £400 including delivery in the end!
Dropping it off to the body shop tomorrow so fingers crossed it will be ready for next weekend and will be a good job.
Can't wait to get it fitted.
