Best place for spare set of wheels??

997London

New member
Hi guys I was going to have my wheels painted black but I have now decided to buy a whole new set of rims as a spare set. Will use these for track days and save my best tyres for the road so think will save me money in the end. Also if I get the second set in black won't have to pay £250-£300 to have them resprayed.

So the point is where is the best place for me to pick up a set of second hand rims, bit dubious of Ebay as weary of buying stolen rims as don't wanna reward the thieves. Should I post something on this forum somewhere or in the monthly Porsche magazine? Or Piston Heads maybe?

Not to worried what the style of them are but I do like the look of the 10 curved spoke ones on GT3s or the new gen 2 997. Found them brand new on Porscheshop website but £900.

Appreciate any ideas.

p.s. Am going to try and make to next Ace cafe meet in London if anyone else up for it let me know.

By coincidence, a forum member (not sure if its this forum or boxa.net) actually selling a set of black-painted wheels at the moment!

Thanks for the heads up. I got a message from the guy who is selling these too. Thing is I have already got exactly same wheels in silver at mo that decided not to have sprayed black to match my car after deciding I didn't like the look.

I spoke to this guy the other week before he got em done and now he says he only had em on his car for a day before deciding they didn't suit. I'm going to look for a different design of wheel to see how that looks in black.

BTW dropped my car off at detailers Gtechniq in Herts today to get rid of swirl marks and have protective nano-crystal layer put on top of paintwork. Will let you know how I get on when I get it back in few days.

if your new set are for track days is it worth considering a light-weight wheel for less un-spring weight?

Be wary of copy wheels- they are often a lot heavier than OE wheels and not necessarily the same offset, plus the paint finish on some i dubious. Given that Porsche want about £450 for a front wheel and £600+ for a rear, i'd be very surprised if porscheshop can source and sell a full OE set for 900

Thanks yeah going to give em wide bearth and buy original 2nd hand set off here or piston Heads. Then rdferb em if needed.
