Best Steering Wheel for a 964

Mutley

New member
Hi guys, i want to change my Cabs steering wheel to a more sport related one like the RS wheel, were is the best place to find one at a good price, plus do I need to do anything or buy additional bits to make the change or is it a straight swap.

Many thanks

Hi Mutley, this was the first mod i did for my recent 964 purchase.. Its an RS steering wheel. It looks and feels great in car, a huge improvement over the stock one.
I got it for £215 on E-bay (it costs about £300 all in from somewhere like Type 911).

will post a pic when i can suss out how !

My 964 turbo has the sport steering wheel which I'm very pleased with. I think it is called the 'club sport' version. The RS version seems very similar but has a metal centre. Its all a matter of personal preference. If you look second hand they don't go for much less than new.

There was one for sale on the forum a little while back. Not sure if Dan has sold it now or not (?). See >>> HERE

Momo wheels are a cheaper alternative. Not everyone's cup of tea however. Several options available - see mine in the S2 over here

Ah, my wheel must be a clubsport one too as its the same as Addicts, except black leather.

Hi guys thanks for the advice, are they a lot smaller than the standard wheel as my left knee touches it at the moment when riding the clutch a bit, I was hoping that they would be a lot smaller to solve this little problem.

Nice wheels all of you[:D]

I think the RS wheels are 350mm diameter. My std 4-spoker "lozenge" is 360mm, so not a great deal smaller.

My Momo wheel is 350mm. Some of the other designs (such as the Momo Race are available in 320mm) and others are more heavily "offset" to give more clearance for your legs with the wheel straight ahead (such as the Momo Jet).

This page on the ESS Website may be useful ?

These are slightly smaller and will give you a little more knee room. I am 6'2 and sit quite close to pedals (knees splayed) and definitely notice the difference compared to the standard wheel I had on my 3.2 (same as ealier 964?).

As someone already touched on, there is a slight downside, the smaller/thicker diameter does take a bit of visibility off the instrument cluster, but I can live with it.

Are they a straight fit, or will I need a Boss kit for the RS wheel, somebody told me they bolt straight on without any mods needed,

Thanks
