Best tyres for 7" Fuchs?

Sorry for the dumb question but I seem to be confusing the search facility!!!

The car that I hopefully collect on saturday has standard 225/50/16s on the rear on what I presume are standard 7" wheels (1988,E).

The rear tyres are pretty well worn and need replacing. Is 225 the widest I can fit on that wheel or can i go to 235/45 or even stay at a 50 profile?

Also, for when I replace the whole set, which are best for grip for dry fast road use? I loved the P-Zeros on the Ferrari but don't often see them on Porsches for some reason.

thanks,
al

I think 225 is about as wide as you can go on a 7" rim.

P Zero's are quite common on 3.2's but for road use only it's not that critical. I've recencently done a few miles on Khumo Ecsta MX's (which are an inexpensive option) and they seem pretty good.

Yep - 225 is as big as you can fit on a 7. Next up is a 245/45 on an 8 or better yet a 9.

Another vote for the Kumhos, they punch WAY above their price bracket, though Dan (porkersc) says you can't get them in 205's for the front anymore and I would always prefer to run the same rubber all round on one of these things

He recently got a great deal on conti sport contacts - under £250 all in inc the tax IIRC

For how many?

I suspected that the 225 may be the max I could go too. Anyone hears of any 8s or 9s .... oh ... back of the queue? Righty o [:)]

For a full set...Perk of being in the motor trade.Staff discount and all that. Glad to hear you got sorted. Your right back get to the back of the queue for the 8 or 9's[:D]..been waiting yonks. Can you believe that when I took mine to my specialist the other day a customer of his mentioned that he had sold his 7 and 9's for £500!!! How gutted where we[:(]

For God's sake don't tell us stuff like that! []

I bought a set of Yokohama S1-Zs for mine about 2 years ago. Cost me the best part of £400 a set but they should last me years as I only do 1500 miles a year. They look the part as they have a very plain sidewall and grip fantastically

I thought that they had stopped making the SO2s? I used to have them on the Griff and they were starting to get very hard to find. Agree, great tyre though. So, looks like I have the following to consider:

P-Zeros - 1st choice but expensive
S02s - if I can find them
Yoko S1Zs

thanks guys [:)]

..and the Kumho MX mentioned elsewhere is in the same league and cheaper. Latest Goodyear F1s would also be worth a look.

Burriana

try Micheldver tyre, I bought 2 front 205/55/16 over xmas for just under £150, Porsche N3 rated, some of the Net suppliers such as Black circles/Camskill seem to have them as well IIRC

Bruce,

There is no need for N-rated. You are paying a big premium for a dubious piece of marketing spin if you buy N-rated. You should be able to buy a good road tyre for under £100 a corner and a very good one for around £120 a corner. While it was about 3 years ago, I got Falken FK451s in 225/245 for IIRC around £75 each fitted and balanced at Bracknell Tyre & Battery. I had SO2s before that so I know how they compare. I got remoulded Colway track tyres for £40 each and they, while in a different league to real r-compounds, will comfortably perform with the best road tyres. I put Toyo T1Rs on SWMBO's Audi in much bigger sizes for under £100 a corner.

Just my $0.02s worth...

Doesn't anyone like the good old Michelin Pilots any more? I've just bought a new pair for the rear (225s) £85 each plus VAT including fitting and balancing, and the Guy came to me!

I just assumed the Pilots would be in the same price bracket as P-Zeros!

If i can get decent tyres a less than £100 each I'll be well happy.

S02's in size 205/55/16 from Micheldever fitted and balanced N3 rated for £73.90 each a real bargain me thinks. Also paid £74 for a rear 225/50/16 eighteen months ago so prices holding fairly consistent. Hope this helps

I've got pilots on just now, where did you get them from?
Were they old stock do they have a central tread block , I really need a 225
