Between PDK rock and Porsche hard place

Reaching out to the community to see if anyone has had a similar experience to me and can offer suggestions.

Basically the PDK clutch appears to slip. The revs momentarily 'blip' when cruising accompanied by a metallic scrunching noise, every couple of seconds or so under load at lower RPM's. The same noise sometimes occurs when engaging gears. OPC has changed clutch pack fluid and re-synchronised the system; the actual change is much better, although still poor to mediocre.

OPC has asked Porsche technical department and basically gets told to follow the fault code guide, but the trouble is that there is no fault warning showing. Next step is to record and video the issue next week.

Any thoughts as to what steps I could take would be welcome. I cannot believe that I am the only person ever to have this issue, but within the Porsche network this does seem to be the case!

John,

Sorry I can't speak with any authority on PDK transmissions, I'm just an interested party here who runs a manual CS.

Clearly something's not right with the clutch pack if you're getting clutch slip accompanied by metallic noises. The difficulty is that if it's a purely mechanical problem I suppose there's a possiblity that it won't necessarily throw up an error message if all the electrical/electronic components are within spec.

Hopefully you'll get some useful feedback from Porsche Stuttgart if you can send them some recorded information on the issue.

I don't know if things have moved on now but at one time the PCs weren't allowed to strip the PDK 'boxes; they had to be shipped back to Stuttgart and a replacement 'box fitted.

Fingers crossed it all turns out well for you in the end. Do you still have the Extended Warranty in place?

Jeff

Surely if the problem is frequently evident, can't you take the service manager or preferably the Gold Technician out in the car to demonstrate and film the issue. Absent codes, PCs get nowhere with Reading unless some other solid evidence.

Thanks both. Ralph, your point is valid. It is booked in next Monday to put the audio / video rig on it so that there is evidence to send to Porsche. The service guys are trying hard but I get the impression that they have little time available for diagnosis. (If it is faulty there should be a code aligned with a process to fix it.) The implication is that I should just run it until something does break, but I want the car to be back in full health, not limping along.

John,

Sorry to hear of your problems, as Jeff says they usually just replace the box and I for one would like it if they could repair such an item after all the majority of the 7 speed manual box used in the 991 is much as the equivalent PDK installation with a different clutch housing and selector assembly operating system etc, so it should be possible to change the clutch pack.

It is one of my concerns about whether to take the extended warranty when mine expires, a full box is an expensive item and so far I haven't heard of an alternative repairer.
