Not necessarily, mine is a 1995 993 C4 coupe and it is not a varioram.

So is mine. I think varioram was introduced for the 1996 model year with builds commencing August 1995.

The easiest way to check whether you have varioram is probably to lift the engine cover and see if you have a big dollop of cast alloy on the top of your engine [;)]

David, looking at the photos of your car, it looks like it's a non-Varioram car, as it has exhaust tips which are fully oval, rather than slightly squared off, as with the Varioram cars. As mentioned above, looking at the engine if you have a cast alloy lump on top of the engine it's a Varioram, if it's all black on top of the engine, it's non-Varioram. Mine is a November 1995 car, which is a Varioram, 1996 model year car.

Varioram engine - 285bhp:

David, You will find '95 cars with and without Varioram, have even seen some '96 cars non varioram as well. There does not seem to be a definitive date when the change occurred and is very random so yours could be either. Think the history on your post is the date when you would have seen C4 Varioram starting to appear.

I would be surprised if Paul Stephens got the bhp wrong but to have 285 bhp your engine bay needs to look like the upper photo, unless it is a tuned non vario which I would think unlikely.

Sorry didn't get s chance to post. I checked and as hard as I looked no alloy

Sorry they were supposed to be tears but the image thing a problem on Iphone!!!! Sure I'll get over it!!! Cracking car anyway so all good

If it is non Vario it only means you have to use the gearbox more - so no hardship there!

Hi David, if I'd bought the car with the dealer clearly selling the car as a Varioram model and later found out that it was a non-Varioram then I would find the situation frustrating. It might be worth bringing it up with them to see if you can obtain some kind of price adjustment. I guess you could only do this if you really felt they sold you the car as a Varioram and it isn't. Sam.

It wasnt advertised as "varioram" but did state 285bhp. Im really not bothered as the car is fantastic in every other way and any problems were rectified and im in to this car for a number fo years to come. You also tend not to see them in red that often either which i like

She drives like a dream, smells like an old car but pulls like a new one, is a touch quirky and is a pretty little thig that im gonna really enjoy driving this year.

Very kind maurice thank you. I fitted new head lamp lenses, fog lights and reflector lenses last nite to smarten the front up. It's brightened up the front up no end. The one thing I didn't manage to do was change the bulbs. For the life of me I couldn't get them out. Is there a knack??

There are (from memory) a couple of spring loaded clips (one each side of the bulb holder) - I seem to remember there not being enough space to get my stubby fingers in there and using some long-nose-pliers to push the clip in, then away from the bulb's connector, then out towards you.

Then the bulb just falls out.
