Big headers for RHD cars.

I've had inquiries from a few UK guys of late regarding the new extractors / headers going onto my 3L build. I thought I would post a couple of pics if anyone is interested. I'm not here spruiking for business but if anyone is interested I can put them in touch with the guy who did mine. I have no financial association with him....apart from the money I send him regularly. [&:]

Wow! Me like [:D] That's a work of art. Did I read that somewhere that you'd gone to a 4" diameter exhaust now?

Just out of interest have you considered using titanium anywhere in the exhaust? I've been doing some light research on the matter and the weight savings are really tempting.
 
Looking very nice Patrick [8D], all that effort should reap the rewards.

I'm still waiting to see the pics of it all installed with lots of clearance and allowing room for our RHD steering shaft [;)] That will be the real acid test.

Actually Peter I was having another very special motor being built before the Economic Crash and had an exhaust made by Tim at SFR which is 3" out, 3.5" downpipe into a slip joined space for a removable Cat, then 4" ovalised pipe for clearance around the back axles, into 5" out. I'm sure Ti would be great if not a little expensive. The big exhaust and headers are 321 ss but the exhaust is definitely lighter than our stock one which is very restrictive and heavy with the 2 layers.

Yes Paul you're correct of course. The proof will be in the pudding. We took a lot of time building these so that they'd fit into an RHD car so fingers crossed that our efforts will be rewarded. The nice SFR headers for LHD cars are 1/8" bigger in diameter than stock and these are 1/4" larger so a decent increase in VE. Notice too the bungs that are right off the motor. These are the EGT x 4 sensors and this is the only way I believe that you'll get a true read rather than the one unit that people have relied upon in the past which has been located well down the pipes.

Tom, not quite a track car but not far from it. Here's a link to some recent trackdays. This is not with the new motor in it. This is with a stock 2.5L and a overly large Vitesse turbo. I have the S2 crown wheel and pinion in my 951 gearbox and so does Sean in the Black car in front of me. This gives much greater acceleration as it shortens the final drive by approx 15%.

Pat, everytime you post you add something to my wish-list. Stop spending money I havn't got!!! Looks the business as usual. I admire your attention to detail and methodical approach, I think by the time you eventually finish this project you'll probably have the most sorted 3ltr (or any ltr out there for that matter) out there.

Cheers Scott. I really hope it all works out. The build has become bigger than 'Ben Hur' for a number of reasons and would make a good TV Mini Series, but not all for the right reasons. Anyway the motor is really close to going on the engine dyno. Fingers crossed next week US time. We've had some delays because the turbo housing is too big and the builders had to make a complicated modification to the turbo mount which will give a lot more clearance from the block and for the exhaust to move away from the OAS. There will be some decent heat shields too.
We will have 2 maps. One for normal premium pump petrol and the other for E85 which will allow some pretty serious boost if needed. I would think 30psi comfortably. However the rest of the car might not like that so I shall keep that sort of psi up my sleeve I think. 1.5 bar on this motor will see over 500whp so that's plenty. Even 450whp day in day out will be fine and have the added insurance of being safe on the track. Not long now...

Pat loved the Vids of Oran Park. Isnt that where the V8 supercars raced.. But im guessing you were on the "short" track..???
It doesnt look that undulating on the telly... Lots of blind crests... GREAT....[8D][8D]

Yes Dave you're right this is the track of many Aussie battles in the past. In fact Peter Brock in a 7L Chevy Monza supercar would race Alan Jones in a 935 and even Colin Bond in a 924gtr (that competed at LeMans). It's a short but technical track and not in the best state of repair any more since it's being sold off for redevelopment into housing. That will probably mean 1 track in a city of 4.4 million!! Not a good prospect.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]The last crest before the short straight that leads onto the final corner / Main straight, is a doozy. You go almost weightless and if you get it wrong you can wind up on the grass on the rhs which is not fun. I've done it. You don't breath for a few seconds while you pray for the car to stay in a straight line![FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]If you go onto YouTube and search Oran Park there are some good clips from the past. Check out the footwork cam of one of the V8 Supercars drivers. Pretty impressive stuff. [FONT=verdana,geneva"]
