Big Ooops

I went online to tax my C4S and was advised 'cannot proceed with this application, vehicle does not have MOT'. Actually it expired last August - big oops. So I booked it in to Cridfords for a test on Friday, then realised I had to drive a pal up to Pembroke to pick up a Ford Sierra - it's a classic! In fact it will be his new builders van. Anyway I just noticed looking at the map it is fairly near to Pendine sands and I do know that there is a rather interesting museum there recounting the history of 'Babs' and other speed record aspirants. Unfortunately when I get into a museum I have to read everything so I expect I'll be getting a B & B and coming home on the Saturday. Still 500 miles in the misses Cayenne will be no hardship. Tweak up the Bose stereo, stick it on cruise and nod off, no no that would definitely be another big oops.

There is a super online govt. MOT reminder system now. Just go online and register.

The museum is usually closed for the winter. You can look through the windows (it's very small) but some exhibits are usually missing at this time too.

Well, never got to the Pendine Museum because we had a little difficulty finding the seller of the Sierra plus it turned out he could talk for England or rather for Wales and we ended up in the pub, so after we got away we just had to head for home asap. Mentioning that the Sierra is a classic might not be to far from the truth because we were advised that there is only 41 Sierras currently listed on the DVLA website. Absolutely true he said and if you think about it when did you last see one. They were the car of choice for reps up and down the country and now they're all gone, no doubt rusted away in scrapyards everywhere. Heavens, what if 911's met a similar fate, not something I really wish to consider. Anyway the Sierra estate 2.0 GLI GT to give it its full title is now a happy addition to the roads of Sussex in its new guise as a builders van. No classic car meetings for that old girl, it's a builders wagon, with a plywood tray in the back as protection I should add, because if you run a normal van they always get broken into by oiks who want to steal your tools and when you go to the tip with a load of building rubble you don't get charged which you would with a van because it's just an old private estate car. Method in the madness eh?
And the trip to Wales in my wife's Cayenne was 550 miles at 61 mph average speed although I was hitting 80/85 a lot of the time, mpg worked out at 41 which I thought was quite acceptable plus I went in and did two hours work (manual) just to round off the day. All thanks to the comfort of the Porsche Cayenne, just the best long distance mile eater.
