Bike carriers

Does anyone have experience of carrying a mountain bike on their Boxster? I'm looking for a solution that is relatively easy to put on and take off and that doesn't run the risk of damaging the paintwork.

Porsche will supply the Roof Transport System + Bike Carrier (a bit pricey at £470) which is probably the most robust option. But from what I can see this is a semi-permanent arrangement because it involves screwing brackets onto the A pillar and (effectively) the B pillar. So it's not something you would want to do very often.

There are lots of different racks that can be strapped to the back of the car in various ways, but the concern here is potential damage to the boot lid, bumper, etc. It's difficult to know which are good and which are bad without trying them.

Any thoughts on good or bad products would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
David

Thanks for the suggestions, Cary. Unfortunately many carriers require the use of a tow-bar, which I don't fancy having on the Boxster. The type that fits on top of the boot lid (like in your third link) looks to be the best bet and I'm doing some more research on those.

It seems that (not surprisingly) this isn't the kind of thing people do with their Boxsters very much [;)]

Sounds like a good idea, but unfortunately I don't have a hard top. (And before anyone offers - no thanks, I don't want to buy one [:D])
