Hi there,

Anyone know of any non Porsche OEM roof bars and bike rack available for the 997 ? The official items are £420 which is a bit steep !

Many thanks

I'm sure a complete transport system with bike carrier attachment was for sale on this forum or possibly Pistonheads recently but unfortunately I can't find the ad now. Perhaps someone else will know?

Thule used to make the Porsche units, but their availability outside of the Porsche network can be patchy to say the least. Bird Automotive do a bike rack for the 987 Boxster which is pretty well made apparently, don't list one for the 997 but might be worth a call..

Thule used to make the Porsche units,

They don't these days - the current Porsche branded kit is made by Mont Blanc (Who are Swedish like Thule - strange that)

Mont Blanc Discovery is the up to date model, but Porsche are still shipping the older "Barracuda".

The above applies to the bike kit - not the rails themselves - not sure who make them.

Clive,
I have quite a few bike carriers and most have some whimpish statement in the manual long the lines of "do not exceed X mph with this equipment on your car".

The Porsche kit for the 993 has same, except X is 170kph[:D]

And the lengths some will go to improve their green/eco-friendly image..........Yes I do own a Porsche but look.......[:D]
