Bilstein HD Struts p/n query

I have been looking for the best deals on the web regards upgrading the suspension.
Having read alot on Rennlist etc have settled on Bilstein B6 HD struts on the front, to match HD on rear done by the previous owner, with H&R greens all round.
However checking part numbers on Bilsteins catalogue they gave me

Bilstein B6 Sports Front VE3-5277 & VE3-5278 struts.

Yesterday I was checking out some US sites to see if a better deal could be had and another set of p/n came up.
W0133-1599309 & W0133-1599366.
I can't find these in the Bilstein catalogue but Google them and they are for my 964 C4 cab 1991.

I understand that the US models run higher than the ROW but the struts are the same.
The only difference in the description is the US version has a threaded body. Whether this is more than the UK/European types I've no idea.

Any help from the resident experts much appreciated, David.

David,

The VE3- part numbers are the correct Bilstein part numbers. The W0133- part numbers all seem to be allied to "autoparts" when Googled and my suspicion is that they are their own part numbers for the same Bilstein parts.

I don't believe there is any difference between US and RoW shocks - the ride height difference is achieved through the use of different springs. I believe Carnewal have some special strut bodies with a longer threaded section to give a greater range of adjustment but that's all I'm aware of. The standard Bilkstein HDs have a threaded body anyway - it's just that the Carnewal specials have a LONGER threaded section.

Hope that helps.

Dave

Thanks Dave.
Another query as I think you have the same suspension arrangement, some sites have a shortened "Drop Link". Should I need one if I'm going to drop mine to RS +10mm. I have to get new ones in anycase as the bearings are shot.

Regards, David.

David,

I can't say that I've come across any drop links described as "shortened". I certainly just retained the standard drop links although I do know a few who have fitted RS drop links, however, you cannot fit them to a C4 anyway as the front drive shafts get in the way. I don't think you'll have any problems at RS+10 - mine is marginally lower than that and all seems well.

Regards

Dave
