Bilt Hamber Electrox

Does anyone have experience of this product? https://www.bilthamber.com/electrox.html

It is a very zinc heavy primer that can be used to protect chassis/bodywork from corrosion.

Bilt Hamber the manufacture has told me that it acts in a very similar way to galvanised steel in that it uses the same cathodic reaction. Apparently it contains 90% zinc!

My intention is to use it on my new wing bottoms to help prevent the inevitable onset of rust corrosion and hopefully go some way in offering some protection.

I have bought some and intend to use it on my front wing bottoms as well once repaired as well as on the sills once stripped back. It is certainly very heavy so don't doubt the 90% zinc claim!

Regards

These products were originally sold to Galvanisers & fabricators-they allow one to quickly repair either contact damage at the galvanisers and/or alterations /additions to already galvanised products including the welds.
Generally,4 to 6 reasonable coats are claimed to be the equivalent of the hot dip galvanising process-it doesn't of course treat rust-that needs to be treated first using something like Jenolite followed by the zinc spray.

IME the only way to truly get rid of rust is to grind it away. The chemical products may compliment the process (like Jenolite) but they are by no means a substitute.

I have heard good things about Bilt Hamber Dynax and Electrox :).

Chas the wing bottoms will be new bare metal, welded on to replace my rusted examples. I will then (or the bodyhop will) prime the wings with electrox as it needs to be used on bare metal for full effect..

That's how I thought you were going about it. My post was aimed at Vitesse about my and others experience of getting rid of rust. I thought your bottoms were fine when I saw the car last time or have you prodded about at them a little more? Either way, your car will go from being an already tidy example to something pretty mint [:)].

Are you doing the work yourself Nathan or using a bodyshop?

Edd

I'm removing the wing (drivers side worse than passenger) which is more difficult and more work than first envisaged and a local guy is going to fabricate a new bottom and weld it on for me.
