binding brake

always happens at the worst time doesnt it? [:mad:] Want to do Duxford next weekend but one rear brake is binding - lack of use due to work and kids, i know its my fault! JZ cant fit me in, how easy is it to do myself.

Have done regular cars brakes many times in past although i notice the brake lines are fixed not flexible, figure this makes life more difficult. Any advice? Should i dabble myself or is it tricky?

You can try a quick fix as I had same problem.Remove the pads and get someone to press brake carefully till pistons are out more than normal.You do not want them out fully.Peel back rubber boot from caliper end .Its held by a metal clip.Then clean up piston(I used 1200 wet and dry and meths)push back in and refit boot and pads.I did this 18months ago and still OK.It is normally exhaust side that sticks due to extra heat etc.
 
It was my OSR that started to stick. Depends on the time you wish to put in I guess, but I did a strip down and bought a new seal kit (not dear but can't remember exactly how much) The trickest part was getting the new rubber dust seal to fit but perserverance with needle nosed pliers got it sorted. Didn't actually do anything other than clean and degrease the caliper when it was stripped as there was no obvious bore wear or rust marks from water ingress. Make sure you clamp the flexible hose with a purpose made brake hose clamp as this will make the bleeding up afterwards far quicker. Once back together with new seals its been fine since and I did this job about 3 years ago. I also took the opportunity to paint with red caliper paint when off the car which makes a huge visual improvement when re fitted. There's nothing really tricky about this job, its just a little time consuming and the caliper to back plate bolts maybe a little tight. Not wishing to add to your jobs, but whilst the calipers off, it may pay to have a look at the condition of your handbrake shoes. I was surprised at how bad mine were. I replaced these as well but trust me, this job is far trickier on the re-assembly side then the caliper task was......
