hi,
i have a 2000 s and having a problem with bird dropping staining the soft top. what's the best cleaning solution to use please?
Billy

I find the simplest solution is luke warm water. Applied with a sponge, wiped on without rubbing. No soaps, no additives.
If you have any really stubborn bits then a very weak solution of water and Milton Sterialising Fluid gently brushed on and rinsed off with copious amount of cold water.
Other will probably come on here and post what works for them so be prepared to experiment.

Cheers,

Nope concur with Fred, don't waste money on loads of stuff , I do use a bit of normal car shampoo but the local winged pests around here are a bit big( I'm at the seaside😉) , nothing abrasive and gentle cleaning with a lot of rinsing, works for my pride and joy.

With cloth hoods I've always used the jet setting on my garden hose then car shampoo but it does make a big difference if you can do this before it dries!

Just though it was worth mentioning that Boxster hoods (and most Porsche cab tops) are made from Sonnenland A5B/DS material made by Rode and Schwalenberg / Haartz GmbH. There's a useful guide to cleaning this material on the manufacturer's website... here.

Rather than using a Sodium Hypochlorite bleach like Milton's (which, I was told by a restorer, can knacker the stitching if used repeatedly) I prefer to use a non-bleaching didecyldimethylammonium-based biocide such as HG Algae and Mould Remover which can be bought from Robert Dyas stores to kill algae growth. In my experience, it's effective, easy-to-use and cheap. After using the Remover, I always clean and reproof the hood.

Hope that helps.

Alan.
