Antony - My God, that must have been a seriously frightening experience! Do you feel recovered enough to enlighten us as to the circumstances of the incident?

R.

I was just sent the picture's, no idea on who or where the driver is from, but they must have been travelling at some speed for the bird to pass through the windscreen.

When I was learning to fly we were warned about the risks of birdstrike - obviously more of a concern for pilots than drivers. I'm not surprised by the damage - remember that some birds of prey are big lumps of meat & bone and can get a move on - imagine hitting a supermarket turkey at a closing speed of 100mph.

Talking of low flying, the South African Air Force fly so low that they are the only air force with a recorded instance of a giraffe strike [;)]

From the pictures I think it is a cockerel.
I guess these might weigh 4kg. That's enough to go through the windscreen even if it is laminated.
I would think they remain on the ground though, so taking out your bumped or radiator.

Pheasants weigh a bit less, but will still smash lights and crack the bumper.

I hit a rabbit at 110mph, but luckily got away with no damage
I have also hit a blackbird, sparrow, bluetit and pidgeon, but none came close to damaging the windscreen.
It all comes down to weight.

So it is true; a sports car does attract birds [;)]

Pity the poor sod who had to get the Marigolds on and fish out the bits of ex-bird from the BOSE apertures! That car must smell delightful now.
