Some of you may have seen this before but maybe interested to know that I tracked down the owner as I was always interested in some details of the 2 cars. I hope he replies again as I wish to ask him some more questions, but from what you see here it is quite some effort to give a GT3 Cup Car some real curry with 400hp at the crank. Sterling effort. Hope to see some more of this guys video's.

It's in Holland. This from the owner/driver:

"the engine is a 2.5 with 400 engine hp at 1.3 bar
modified turbo and carillo and c@e pistons
efi motormanagment
4 inch exhaust and wide body
We are now making it more reliable by using a 968 block with bushes which is stronger and a dry sump.
We are also thinking about a 16 valve head but that,s for later
The gt3 was a cup car with 420hp
In the second race i was in front but had to stop because i lost some oil"

Just not quite sure what he means by "bushes"? Anyone?

Oh, and Paul, I blatently lifted your 1982 LeMans videos and posted them on Rennlist to their pleasure. You got your dues as well.[:D]

Awsome driving. The cars seemed very evenly matched there.

I'd think by bushes he might mean that instead of the head stud screwing directly into the block it would screw into a bush screwed into the block. The bush would be made of a stronger material and since it is screwed into the block using a larger diameter you get more engagement of thread. They are commonly used items especially where you have steel screws screwing into alloy components.

Interesting that both cars were within a few percent of eachother in the power stakes. It really shows how the modern design of the GT3 is able to get the power down out of the corners, but then that is what Dr Porsche has believed all along with the rear engine [:)]

I think the GT3 could have gone faster, but was obviously taking very defensive lines into the corners as it looks like the 944 had better braking and could easily get up the inside - maybe the 944 was quite a bit lighter.

Love that HUUUUGE boost gauge [:D]

The dash did look like something out of Jules Verne's Nautilus though with the big gauge and the metal facia.

Well he's got 400hp @ crank and I'm guessing quite a bit lighter than stock. I hope he returns my reply to him as I want to ask him some more questions. The GT3 was covering his lines in the corners, but he got away on the straights so he didn't have to be defensive there. I think he was going pretty damn hard too. His superiority was how quickly he could apply power, especially through the traffic. Having said that, I'd like to see how our hero might have done with about 450whp or so. Give him a little power upgrade to try and match 20 yrs of tech advances. Especially in suspension. Now if we could just get him on some KW's.....

Another brief update. His car weighs 1100kg's or 2425lbs. It has a 6 speed gearbox and dry sump. He is getting a new block with Nikasil liners done by Perfect Bore in the UK. Not sure on the new capacity yet. I still love watching the vid though. Wonder what a Cup Car weighs?

Wonder what a Cup Car weighs?

Not sure about the 996 variant but an article in this months club magazine by Michael Cotton talks abot the 2008 997 Cup cars being 1150kg with steel brakes and 1130kg with PCCB so they are probably all in the same ballpark
