Black Alloy Wheels for a 987

I saw a black 987 3.2S today sporting black [alloy] wheels and black side vents. I then saw another one on sale at OPC Park Lane!.

I have never seen that combination before and it looked really nice. I assume that this is one of the Porsche options. Are the wheels the same as the silver coloured ones? Are they easier to clean [please!]? These Boxsters also had the side vents coloured in black rather than the ubiquitous silver.

Someone has taken some care in the presentation of the cars; I have never seen the new Boxster with side vents coloured anything other than silver, regardless of the paint colour.

Any views?

I've seen several 996's with the black alloy wheels, and think it looks amazing, I'd love to get that done to my wheels!!

The coloured wheels are very popular abroad, but pretty rare here. (Maybe it has something to do with the price...)

Funny, everytime I mentioned the side vents on a 987 to anyone from Porsche, it was very clear that silver was the only "option"....

Have a word with OPC Park Lane if you want to check; their showroom 987S has black painted side vents. I am sure that they would not use anything other than Porsche approved parts/paint etc.[8|]

I have now discovered that the black wheels cost £705 [from the Porsche web site] but cannot find out anything about the cost of painting the side vents. I shall enquire at OPC Cambridge next Sunday.

I must admit that it makes the Boxster S look quite a bit more sleek; black all over with red brake calipers. Maybe I am being tempted into a change sometime in the relatively near future...

All the conversations I have had with any OPC have ended in "Sorry, colour coded vents are not an option". Often it has been recommended to go to a body shop to get done. Thought about getting a second set and getting them done at premier or some other approved outlet to do it. Wouldn't need to lose the car for a few days then.

Bodyshop will do the air vents for about £150 +vat, you could get a local shop or chipsaway to do them for less (one screw fixing)

As for the wheels they are body coloured so black only on a black car, red on red, yellow on yellow etc.

Wouldn't mind black wheels on a yellow Cayman [:D]

I popped into OPC Park Lane today and discussed the black vents. Apparently this is an option from an OPC at a price. My discussions ended with agreeing that if I bought a Boxster and wanted colour coded side vents I would not have to worry about the cost of repainting them "...I am sure that we can come to some arrangement..." Sure they can if I decide to replace my car with a new 987 S!

I really like the option to have your rims painted in your car color, at least for the darker color range. However, I can't but wonder how you'd go about repairing scratches from overly spirited parking attempts combined with viscious kerbs?

Just out of interest, does anyone know who might be able to paint the wheel alloys in a car colour and how much it would cost?

Would it be more than the OPC cost of £705?

When these wheels are painted body colour, is it the whole wheel thats painted (ie the back of the spokes and the inside of the rim), or is it just the face of the wheel that faces outside?

( I have a spare set of Boxster twists I'm considering going body coloured [:)] )

No, that would be far too easy.

Anyway, IMO there are too many silver cars on the road today and I want my car to stand out a bit, as well as be fun to drive[:)].

For some reason a basalt black Boxster 987S with black alloys, black side vents and showing the red brake calipers appeals to me. And then I would have to choose the other extras...yum!

Funny Julian, I chose my Basalt Black because I did not want it to stand out as I felt silver to be more a "look at me" colour; so I guess I'll now have to get a silver to blend in...

Basalt black Boxster 987S with black alloys, black side vents: Good choice sir, let me know when you are selling it [;)]

Gary Smith had coloured Carreras fitted to his 986 - bought the wheels from Simon at Essential who also did the lapis blue spokes (in similar style to the seal grey 550 wheels). think he paid about £200 extra, which included colour coding the centre caps too..
