BLACK LIST - Can't believe this has happened again!!!

Recently had my wing mirror stolen again! This time in the very busy night life of Hoxton Square central London. The alarm does go off. No one stopped the buggers (five white youths) and they ran off. I called the police as I had just missed them by fifteen or so seconds and they weren't interested in the matter. I had to report the incident to my local police station!!! Like what!?! They could have sent a call out to the local bobby & scanned the area at least and caught them, but no why bother!? It's not like they are dropping litter or have over filled their wheelie bin or anything serious like that"¦ So I thought a good idea would be to Black List the areas where mirrors have gone missing in the vain hope other London based or visiting 993 owners won't be caught out too. £305. plus VAT per mirror and that doesn't include the repair to the damaged door is a lot to pay to support this foul criminal past time! Don't park and leave your vehicle in: SE3 /SE7 (Greenwich/Charlton) area. Or Hoxton Square/ Old Street Any other places of warning please do share. If you know of any places where these mirrors could be sourced any cheaper please pray post the details.

Sorry to hear about this. As another Londoner your story really makes me cringe. Did they really just tear it off, or try to remove it (presumably to on-sell)? The real question is, what self-respecting 993 owner buys second-hand wing mirrors with dodgy provenance off eBay?

It might be worth a call to the specialist breakers like Douglas Valley and Porsch-apart. Husbourne Crawley autojumble is also coming up this month. You never know, you might find one very similar to yours if you browse e-bay! [][]

Why are 993 mirrors being stolen? It can't be just to put on eBay to sell on to other 993 owners. Maybe 993 mirrors fit easily onto another car popular with young drivers - such as a Saxo or C3?

Anyone noticed a non-993 wearing 993 mirrors?

Maybe you should register and do a bit of undercover work - Ask where you can get some Porsche mirrors for your Wikkid A4 Cab?

The previous (London) owner of my car had this happen a number of times. He finally solved the problem by fitting the earlier 'flag type' mirrors which being less desirable didn't attract the same attention.

Would etching the car reg on the mirror glass help? (I realise though a personal reg would not always go with the car if sold.)

Peugeot on Pistonheads - with Porsche mirrors...

Looks like Porsche mirrors are popular with 'kroozers'. []

Looked at them and they are the similar colour and everything, but if I were to buy those, plus the cost of getting it sprayed to my cars exact colour and fitted I am only looking at £20 in difference. This all hurts...

could you tell me where abouts in Greenwich pls as I live in SE9, thanks alot
Westcombe Park area, by the large round about near Sainsbury's. I seriously wouldn't even park in the Sainsbury's car park now knowing that despite people being around no one will step in to prevent the incident.

Doesn't that infringe my human rights? "" I have heard of people doing this, but every time I'll look at her I'll see the other mirrors and remember the incident all over again. I can't do that, not a healthy way to live.
Putting one manufacturer's car mirrors on other cheaper cars doesn't make it in any way related to those marques. Surely there must be cheaper similar mirrors out there that are affordable for these numb skulls?

That's amazing. That blue Audi has 993 teardrop mirrors on it. So does the gold peugeot in your later post. This is really bad news. I cannot believe these idiots are specifically targetting 993s. There's no way way I'm taking my car to London. 993 mirrors are very easy to remove. There's no way the toe rags paid £305 plus vat for each mirror. They've got to be stolen.

I'm tempted to fit some old "elephant ear" style mirrors from a 964 or something.

just do without mirrors all together... as in the Cannonball Run film where the Italian driver of the 356GTB4 chucks his rear view mirror away and says, "Whassa behind me, I donna care about."
Most folk don't know what they're there for anyway.

I keep thinking about removable mirrors. Does anyone know of someone who can do this/ design them to be removable? It will be for the benefit of all 993 drivers in the end.

Hmm. You could certainly remove them quickly enough with an allen key. The electrics just unplug. Ask the little ***s who do this for a living. I reckon I could get it down to two minutes per side with practice. I'm not sure it's necessary to do any mods !

hi

i am amazed by this thread. Live less than 5 min drive from there, and often parked car there with no problem over the last 4 years I have owned it!

amazing what the youth of today gets up too.
