Black sealant for front struts to body

I have had my suspension set-up which required the hard black sealing compound to be removed from the front strut tops. Does anyone know where I can get the same or similar susbtance to reinstate it. My pristine 3.2 is not so pristine at the moment and I desperately want it back to how it should look. Can anyone help me out please?

Hi Warwick,

The hard black sealant you refer to is actually 'pitch' as in the stuff Tar Macadam is made from. You should be able to get it from any building supplier of worth. It is applied 'hot'. A small gas stove, an old pan and bingo.. Watch your hands!

When I had mine done by Mike Evans at Autofarm last year they applied some black putty straight from a tin to replace the hard stuff they chiselled out. Don't know what it is called but a phone call to them may help.

Peter

would imagine the brush on black underseal type of stuff that Waxoil produce would be very similar and easily obtained

The black Waxoil underseal doesn't dry hard, it stays tacky and smells, so probably isn't the best thing to use under the bonnet. Apart from anything else, it will just stick to the underside of the carpet and make a mess. I would either leave it off to make future adjustments easier, or find the proper stuff.
