Blance shafts and belt...

Hi guys, I have just replaced the cam belt and balance belt on my 944S2, all went well until i started the car and the dum ass apprentice decided that he would come over and have a look with a 24 inch screw driver in his hand, lent on the front of the car, leaned over and stuffed the screw driver in the way of the balance belt...[][][]Can you believe it GRRRHHHHHH...[]Any how at this moment the balance belt snapped, smashed a big hole in the plastic cover at which point i ran and stopped the car, I was stunned...Well i stripped it all down back to as if i had just finished fitting the belts, i then fitted the old balance belt...The trouble i seem to be having is when i rev the car to about 2 thousand revs it seems to get a vibration through the engine and entire car... the car did run for about 20 seconds or so with the broken belt... Can this damage the engine in anyway, or could i have lost the timing of the balance shafts even though i have refitted the belt with the timing marks in the marked place... [FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I suggest a 12 Bore to sort the apprentice.

The balance belt, you say it broke....where did the ends go?? If you are lucky you have done no harm, the vibration is just the balance shaft timing is wrong. If you are not lucky the ends of the Bal belt may have caused the Timing belt to jump a tooth or more. - Not good.

There will be others on here with more detailed ideas than me.

I'd strip it, then check and replace both belts.

good luck

When the balance belt broke it just flicked round which is what smashed the casing,it then just sat on top of the rollers and shafts pulleys, theres no missfire from the engine and i checked the engine TDC and that was ok...the only thing i havnt done which i think i should have and that was turn turn the enigine so all TDC marks were in place then TDC the balance belt...At the moment i have only set the TDC for the balance belt and have paid no attention to where the enigine TDC is...Fingers crossed this might help !
