Blaupunkt Radio Cassette

Whan I bought the car it had a single CD player fitted, but I also had the original Blaupunkt Toronto model SQR 46 radio/cassette with the car. Being an old git I decided to re-fit the Toronto to maintain originality. Unfortunately the radio works fine but the cassette refuses to stay in the set.
Any ICE experts out there have any ideas or recommendations?

The Torontos are notoriously unreliable as they get older. Blaupunkt can service them, but it isn't cheap.

Best to buy a second hand one, but make sure it works 100% and don't pay too much.

Probably a spring relaxed or the mech deformed. I have done a few player mechs in the past and they can be difficult. Little springs, pivots and arms can go everywhere.

That said, its probably worth opening the top and trial inserting a cassette to see if the problem is obvious.

I saw an advert recently in classiccars (I think) for a company that will fit "modern" brains in older head units - IIRC they also did a CD install in what looked like an old tape head unit. Sadly the green machine mrs totsnap has already recycled that mag - if I see it again will post up a web addy......

Greetings
Toronto 46, that brings back memories! The problem is the tape slack "take- up" sensor. Due to age it can no longer read the pulses it requires to engage the latch that holds the head base plate in to the play mode. When the machine was in its youth it was a fairly common problem which became more common when all the machines got older. Spares from Blaupunkt will no longer be in existence but I might have the odd old machine lying around that we could salvage parts from, but be advised the parts will still be at least fifteen to twenty years old at best. And durability cannot be guaranteed. However I am hopefull I can help. Please e-mail me with your contact details, and I get back to you. My shop is based just north of Heathrow in Hillingdon, Middlesex.

I dont personnaly see the point of depriving yourself of a good quality modern CD player unless of course you are entering concours competitions based on originality. Even if you are surely you can just swap them over when needed for competitions?

Just a bugger having to chop into the cables (humm, can't swear [;)]).

I have the original toronto unit fitted and a Sevillia CD unit, both blaupunkt, but different connections, what a pain !

I just use my tomtom on FM transmission to play MP3's instead.
