Bleeding brakes!

Just a quick check before I do the obvious that turns out to be really stupid.....[8|]

Will shortly be bleeding my brakes and as I have no idea when it was last done I want to properly flush the system. I assume using a cheap DOT4 fluid (I can get 5 liters for 16 quid locally) to bleed through a few times before a final bleed with the ATE Blue I have would be the best way. Dont really want to use the ATE Blue when I'm going to flush it through several times. Especially when it costs 12 quid + a litre.

Secondly is 1 litre enough to do the system on a 3.2

Cheers

Would think a litre of ATE would be enough once you've flushed through with the cheaper stuff.

I would recommend you use a pressure bleeder (remember to clamp the vent hose!).

Remember to bleed the clutch slave whilst you're at it. Located on top of the gearbox - a pain to get to but if your brakes have not been bled then neither has your clutch hydraulics.

Andy,
I'd flush it all through with a litre of cheapo' fluid, before starting drain as much of the old stuff out of the reservoir with a syringe to avoid dilution of the fresh fluid, then a litre of Super Blue should be more than enough. Again, remove as much out of the tank before re-filling with fresh.
As Chris say's, a pressure bleeder makes life a lot easier. I made one for £3, however a cheap one is available from Halfords for £18.

Good luck,
