Blinkcode diagnostics tester

Hi All,

OK I built a blink code tester to try and read any codes that maybe stored in the DME. I followed the instructions at

http://www.pff.de/linked_stuff/PorscheDiagnoseSchaltplan.pdf

after using google to tranlate it, but the circuit diagram is easy enough to follow.

My problem is that document refers to a round 19 pin connector, however my S2 is of an 89 vintage and so it only has the rectangular 12 pin connector. I looked through the manuals and can't find a cross reference to say exacly what pins I should use.

The only info I can find is in the main engine manual page 03-3 and 4 which shows the 12 pins however on one page it states using pins 1,2,5,9 and on the next it says pin 9 is unused, plus this all relates to the 944S and not 944 S2. Futher down in the same manual it shows the S2 pages 24-28 and even mentions the 12 rectangular connector but no reference to what pins to use.

So the big question; Does anybody have any idea what pins on the 12 pin diagnostic relate to what pins on the 19 pin diagnostic socket

All help much appriciated

Regards

Gary

OK I guess nobody has the answer, so here it is

If you are to build a blinkcode tester which will work on 944S and above from about 1987 (does exclude turbo's) and you have the 12 pin rectangular dianostic connector the pin out you require is;

12 Pin DME Pin Use Blinkcode wire

Pin 1 - +12 volts Red
Pin 2 - Ground Black
Pin 11 - 22 DME control Brown
Pin 12 - 13 L line Blue

Pin 10 - 55 K line Brown for additional tests

I connected the tester last night and carried out the test for any error codes, as I got a read out of 1500 there are no stored codes, went through the test until 1 got a 1000 which is basically a single blink and a long pause.

When I've next been for a run and the engine is warm I'll carry out the optimization which basically resets the DME to ideal conditions. Whether this makes a big difference or not I don't know, but from reading 964 & 993 forum's it's something that can be done after a service.

So for the cost of a only time as I had the parts available, the blink code tester works well on the initial test I've tried, I'll let you know on future tests.

In the mean time here's a link to a German forum which has 3 seperate links to all the details on the tester

Im interested, but I cant help you. I think I may have the same .pdf that youre talking about, but Im far from convinced that an early DME2.1 can generate fault codes; particularly in any 944 application...

If you've an 89 2.7 it should work for you. As I said I tested it last night and it works fine, it'll be ideal for any form of fault finding or resetting the DME after any servicing such as replacing the plugs, air filter, dizzy cap etc

Excellent. I plainly didnt get past the first line on what I presumed was a 'bump' post. [:D]
