Blow out against 511 bhp Merc SL55 AMG !

Hi Guys

Just had a tyre blow out while comapring my car against a 511 bhp Merc SL55 AMG !

No major problems just a lot of tyre spoke. The guy in the Merc even stopped to help and we compared notes !

Now this could have been a lot worse and I am trying to find out why.

After checking the tyre wear on the blow out, the outside tread is 4/5mm while the very inside is only 2mm. This is the same on the other rear tyre.

The fronts have 5 mm all round. Currently using Pirelli P Zero's.

I guess I will have to replace both rears, but how can I stop this un even wear and could it be the reason for the blow out.

Any suggestions welcome.

Hi

How long have you had the car?

It sounds as though the rear suspension has been set up for an "aggressive road/track" settings with a couple of degrees negative camber. Great for cornering on track tyres, but does accelerate rear tyre wear on the road.

Might be worth having the rear camber checked.

Hi Gary

I bought the car in December and have done one track day. My car does not have standard suspension so that may explain the harsh set up.

Any suggestions on where I can get the camber checked in NE London ?

Cheers

Hi Jon

You could try 911 Virgins in Uxbridge or I used Parr motors here in Crawley, just around the M24/M23 nr Gatwick

Other good places would be JZ Machtech in Kings Langley or GT-One in Chertsey (if you fancy a trip south...)
