Help windscreen blower motor has packed up, been noisy for some time. Got motor out not to bad a job and it looks like the brushes are worn out, has anyone ever managed to get hold of these and where from.
Regards Baz

Hi Baz
Can you give me details of what was involved in removing the motor , mine has blown recently too.
I think there is a detailed description of blower motor repair in either Pelican tech forum or Rennspeed just do a search on them.

Hi Baz,
My blower motor was kippered when I bought my car, so I bought a new one from Specialist cars of Malton, it was identical to the one I took out and fitted not problem.
If your going to repair your blower motor dont forget the bearings which will probably be dry, you might want to replace them at the same time.
Cheers
John

Mike removal was very easy I removed the four flexy hoses that are attached to the motor, marked for position and disconnected the wire that opens the flaps, then removed the fresh air intake mesh and removed two screws that are behind it and hold the whole lot in. I then wriggled the whole unit out then you can remove two screws that hold the motor in and lift it out.
John can you remember what sort of price the motor was and did you try to get just brushes as the bearings in mine are still running smoothly I would hate to have to buy the whole thing for the sake of a set of brushes.
Regards Baz

Baz have you tried contacting old-fashioned alternator repair companies, they may have brushes that are similar lying around in the workshop.

Baz,
Price was £135 + vat for the complete unit part# 911,571,320,32 , give them a call they might just sell the motor& brush kit only. Although your bearings are OK they are at least 20 years old and have probably done a lot of work so check out the lubrication before reusing them.
Cheers
John

I bet I could fix you up with some brushes. Take a pic and measure them. If I don't have exactly the right ones you could sand them down to fit and trim to length if need be.

Job jobbed brought a new motor from Malton specialist cars £50 delivered fitting was a doddle hardest bit was pulling fan off of old motor and pushing onto new one refitted to car this morning no problems. Quite a cheap job by Porsche standards.

If this is the same blower motor thats fitted to the Carrera 3.0 a Volvo(343 i think) blower motor fits as an almost direct replacement. Scrappies sell them for about a fiver.

if anyone has a copy of porsche post with the "i learned about porsche from that articles" in i put the motor tip in the article. I think it also gives the correct volvo model number so you get the correct motor. it's quite a few years back mid nineties i think. I remember the motor cost a fiver and i was stunned as the "specialists" wanted 150 quid for a whole blower assembly.

I would imagine pcgb themselves should be able to scan a copy from the archives given your description.
We pay our subs so ask for some action from the powers that be..... then tell us all [:D]

Yeah, thanks. The one in my engine compartment needed more than brushes though. I jumped out of the car with a fire extinguisher in my hand... The smell was awful. Nothing to see though, just the smell, it really burnt out good and proper.

[&:]ouch! I lost the front one the first long journey... it filled the cabin with smoke and my Brother thought it was hysterical as I'd just bought the car....

Mine blew while queueing up to go on track, i could smell burning and thought it was coming from an Elise in front of me, the Marshall waived me on and immediately acrid white smoke poured out of the vents and the external air bonnet intake ( that was the clue).
Totaly embarrassing a sl. worrying for a few minutes.
So guys , are we agreed this is a relatively easy diy fix?
Can we have a concensus on what to replace , ie blower motor ( 40 quid?) where is the cheapest source of good quality / condition units.

Mike
Motor was £51 all in delivered from Malton Specialist cars Genuine Bosch unit. You might be able to just remove the motor from the fan housing 2 X 8mm headed screws unplug cable on front of fan unit then lift motor out, fan is pressed onto end of motor spindle. I supported fan across jaws of a vice and tapped the spindle through the fan note amount of shaft sticking through fan and put new one back on same distance. If you have to remove complete unit this is done by removing the fresh air intake grill and undoing 2 X screws that hold complete fan unit in place.
