blue smoke - help!

My engine started smoking badly last weekend. Blue smoke, definitely oil being burnt.
A Porsche specialist checked all the spark plugs, did a compression test etc. which didn't show any problem.

The car had an oil change only 4 weeks ago and all was fine,
I also noticed no loss of performance or funny sounds even when the engine was smoking badly (the smoke all came out of the exhaust)

After testing the engine it was found that the car needed oil (so it was obviously being burnt and was not just the usual expected oil loss over time)

The problem then mysteriously disappeared as quickly as it arrived.

It drives beautifully now!!!!!!

I really want to take it to LeMans this year but if it's anything serious I don't want to take a risk.

Any ideas what it might be?

cheers

If it's smoking as you describe then something's amiss, adding more oil won't cure it. Perhaps oil is being drawn into the combustion chamber somehow. Did you oil the K&N and overdo it perhaps?. I'd remove the air filter and look for signs of wetness behind the filter and recheck the oil at the dipstick with the engine hot and running, something doesn't sound right there.

I would'nt overly worry about it unless it becomes a regular event and you are using 1 to1.5ltrs of oil/1000 miles and the smoke is blue in colour. My car did it every know and again after start up say once every six months

UPDATE

After much head scratching I was told it could be a blocked breather and to dump some Redex into the tank at the next refill.
In desperation I tried this and unbelievably it seems to have worked. No more smoking at idle.

Bizarre
