Blue smoke?

Took my new C4 for its first short run today, only did half a mile but noticed blue smoke. Got back home and there was plenty of blue smoke, ran the engine for 10 minutes but it didn't clear.

Now the car has been stood a few months so hasn't been driven in anger for a good while. I got it trailer back from Scotland and today was it's first minor run out.

Car has just sat for 15 minutes but is still hot, I just started it again to see what was what and... nothing, not a spot of smoke?

Just tried again, no smoke when started and moved around: -

It is unlikely to be anything serious. First off, after sitting for a while some oil will have seeped into the cylinders and will need to burn off. Second, it could have been overfilled with oil at some point and has some oil hanging around in the inlet. At worst it might be in need of piston rings and a top end end rebuild. While this will be expensive (£4000 to £8000) you don't have to rush into it as running the car while burning a bit of oil and needing to top up occasionally is not a problem for these cars.

As a new owner I would strongly recommend you get a good specialist to look it over to give you an appraisal of what needs doing in the future. Being in Cheshire you have an excellent specialist to call on - Unit 11 in Warrington. Give them a call and tell them I sent you. [:)]

It could also be that the oil is too thin. Lots of garages are using 5w-40 or 10w-40 whereas when the car was built the oil was 20w-50 which suits our climate.
In PP it was announced that Porsche have launched 2 new oils for the air-cooled which will settle a few arguments (maybe

) regards the oil viscosity that should be used in our cars.

Well an oil change is on the cards anyway so I'll start with that.

Now also got the ABS/4wd and buzzer warning when I drive off, mot looks a way off yet.

Probably easiest if you get U11 to do the MOT / prep and leathercare is only 50 yards away, they could also do the welding easy enough. Kills several birds with one stone so to speak and great guys to deal with.

Hmmm... visit one location, hand over wedge of cash and return with a finished car, sounds like a plan.
