blue tooth in a boxster 986

Hi Guys

Does anyone have any suggestions /recommendations on how to bluetooth a mobile phone through the radio system fitted to a 2001 Boxster S. I hate wearing a ear piece and would like a hands free system to work with the existing Becker unit (CDR 22). I'd also like it to play the MP3 I have on my phone as well. I've heard rumours that some installations cause fault warnings, is this true? And others suggest that my options are very limited. [:(]

Cheers
JJ

How far down the DIY route do you want to go? If you are happy to do a bit of work here is my suggestion. This relies on you not having a CD changer fitted.

1) Look on ebay for a simple cable that gives you line in where the CD changer goes.
2) Google for the sequence of buttons needed to get the radio into aux mode.
3) Look on ebay again at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Connects2-BTAV01-car-bluetooth-interface-A2DP-MP3-/170494507491?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item27b243b9e3#ht_853wt_835 and connect this to the line in and some power.
4) Mount the phone where the mic picks up your voice.

I'm just doing the same - I'm having a totally plumbed-in handfree kit installed by THB Bury, which has interchangeable cradles for different makes/models of phone.

You can probably swap the headunit for a Pioneer one with bluetooth and ipod connectivity for under £150.

Thanks guys, I'd probably go with the replacement blue-tooth head-unit if I could find one with a similar colour scheme and not one that looks like a Christmas tree. Anyone know of anything suitable? Then of course there's the speakers which seem to be naff but I guess that's another post!

I've got a Parrot MKi9100 hands-free kit in my 986 - it's great and means that I have the OEM headunit rather than an aftermarket one

Gives me full control of my iPhone and has USB slot for music too.

It has a small screen which I have placed just above the hazard light switch

Excuse the poor photos, but this should give you an idea.

I've mounted the wireless remote at the base of the centre console next to the 'Boxster S' logo
