Annoyingly there isn't a 'simple' upgrade avaiable... Yes you can buy the additional - non Porsche boxes that do this for a few hundred pounds(Denison etc)
The other option which I did was to have a second SIM and have a divert set up on the main number, Orange do a product called anyphone and if my phone was off it immediately diverted calls the other number- ie my car..

It should be added that putting a Denison in your car you lose your CD player and the option of extended warranty - unless you know a friendly OPC...

Not sure if I'm missing something here, but thought worth saying, I have a 2008 C2S with phone module - thought i had to put sim in - went to friendly OPC (cambridge) he did something with the blackberry (SAP mode i recall) and all link in

Hope its easy as the BB was changed last week, so I'll have to have a try myself - and have since moved to scotland!!!

hope this gives some food for thought
cheers
darren

Yes, as Gary says, it does depend on Gen 1 (PCM2.1) or Gen 2 (PCM3). Even with the Gen 2 cars you need a phone which is SAP compatible to get full functionality although any phone can be used in Hands Free Mode.

interesting captain you say any phone can be used Im assuming that's with the sim inserted into car?? I must have a good look sometime my car is 2008 but gen1????? & as far as im aware no Bluetooth dnt want to loose the cd or have to divert calls so quess its pull over then answer phone with engine off of course!!!

No, what I'm saying is that you can "bluetooth" any phone to PCM 3 in a Gen 2 997 (without inserting sim). Gen1 cars have no bluetooth function. There are some late Gen1turbos with PCM3 but no Carreras to my knowledge. PCM3 has 2 options. Hands Free Profile - works with any phone and Sim Access Profile which only works with phones that are SAP compatible (mainly Nokia and Samsung). In your Gen 1 car I'm afraid you are stuck with the previously
mentioned solutions.

Looks interesting. How does the bluetooth "module" actually connect to the PCM? Was it an easy DIY? For £300 seems a good buy? Of course there will still be warranty issues - if that is of concern.[&:]

my car is still under warranty and to be honest it isnt an issue. Every time I get into my car now it automatically pairs with pcm. I don't have to do anything and nothing is visible so no mess after market gear hanging about.

As others have said, referring to 2008 is a bit ambiguous. Hopefully these pics help.

If your PCM looks like this, you have the older version which as no bluetooth capability itself. The two most limiting factors I found when I had this was that I had to break open my phone every time to put the SIM in the phone module, and others have suggested workarounds to that. Also, it did not have a mute function so I found that I couldn't take part in conference calls as i'd be disrupting the call with car noise.

If your PCM looks like this, you have PCM3 and it does have bluetooth capability and a mute function. The turbo is the only gen1 997/987 I know of that was upgraded to PCM3 so gen1 turbo's do appear with either PCM2 or PCM3. The rest of the cars only have PCM3 as a gen2 997 or 987.
