Hi guys, does anyone know if it's possible to buy repair panels for bottom of front wings and if so where from and how much?
thanks in advance, Alan.

You don't need panels and I am not sure you can get them. Just ask your bodyshop to put some new metal in. That's the normal way of doing it and how mine was done. They will just shape to the metal they take out.

Pro-9 do a fibreglass repair panel for £47 per side

Thanks guys, don't fancy fibreglass and will be doing welding myself hopefully so the easier the better hence looking for metal repair panels.

Blackmagic, you mention Jon Mitchel do they sell these panels? if so do you know how much and have contact details.

Thanks Alan.

If you can weld you can probably make a new repair panel.

I made a new panel for the O/S wing on my S2 last summer, having never done such a thing before, and it worked perfectly. A friend welded it in and I had it sprayed and it really is as good as new.

(And it has - thankfully - survived the harsh winter, with daily driving on gritted roads.)

Oli, I'm constantly impressed by your ability and desire to get in there and do it yourself.... despite your lack of parking/garage facilities. Maybe you should start trading? [:D]

Ha! Steve, you say the kindest things - thanks. Unfortunately, I do DIY because I can't afford to pay someone else to do it, and the only thing I could trade on is my good looks and charm!

There is very little on these cars that is hard to do, and that remains one of the (many) appeals of them for me. And I try to encourage other people to tackle repairs themselves; it is very satisfying, it saves a pile of cash and it means you understand your own waggon better, all of which are good things.

If you want to be impressed by DIY abilities then look to others on here. Peanut is a grumpy old fart but his diagnostics and repair descriptions are very good indeed and always well worth reading. Peter Empson is a nutter of the first order, but he knows these cars backwards and it shows. And the chap (whose login I have forgotten - sorry) who is developing his own ECU software has forgotten more about the way the way the engines in these cars work than I have ever known. And then there is everyone on Rennlist ...

Have a go at making repair panels. If you want you can come down and bring the wing and we can have a go.

Excellent to see plenty of people working on their own cars on here. [:)]

I do some things DIY: servicing, simple repairs etc. I don't touch bodywork though - don't really have the skills for that IMO!

nether do I pixie. But I am very fortunate to share garage space with two guys who spend their time resoring old VW vans Ie split window, and bay window vans. And without them I would be totaly stuck.

bodywork is still my weak point as well, currently have someone working on a replacement dirvers side wing for me, thankfully a good mate so not to expensive, rest I have done myself for the same reason as most people, just don't have the money to pay someone 360 an hour to do what I can with a bit of effort, might take me longer but the satistaction of replacing a gearbox and making the car work again is immense!!
