body shell condition post 2002

I've bought myself a 2003 C4S , all looks clean and straight , I've now started looking around it very closely and as always you start finding things you didn't notice and the time of purchase , like most of the panels have had paint , a good finish though but I can see in places where the paint has sunk and repairs can be seen under the paint , what I'm really curious of is that do the 996 suffer from any corrosion / rust anywhere , I've not been under the car , it looks straight and not signs of grounding anywhere when I stuck my head under from the side , just wondering if there are any places to be aware of?

Hi Mark
Rust should not be a major issue unless poor accident repairs in the past, But I would advise having a good look under the wheel arch liners especially the rear, Mud build up can cause issues. Also remove front bumper and clean between the Rad and the A/C condenser, you’ll be surprised on what comes out. Brake pipes around callipers and under passenger side remove cover to check. Check all drain holes for blockages. (Google is you friend)
Good luck
Andy

Thanks Andy , I was going to remove wheel arch liners and under trays first and have a good look,
just hope she's in good condition as I've already fallen in love with the car , as long as the body shell is good with no rust or major repairs i'l keep the car and spend some good strong money on it , it has full Porsche service history and 64,000 on the clock , really clean inside too.

Mark .

Hi Mark, I removed all wheel arch liners and checked my car when I bought it. Pay attention to removing rear wheel rubber trims(in front of rear wheels) as mud can gather there and cause rust. I cleaned all arches and coated in POR15 which is a clear rust preventative coating. My car was immaculate, which I think is part of the attraction of 996s as they are usually very good bodily and hold their condition well. Good Luck with the car, take advantage of the good weather and give those arches a full overhaul and check.

Hi , thanks for the info , what are the wheel arch liners like to remove ? Are they just a arch liner that can be removed by just jacking up and removing the wheel or do I need a ramp because connection with under tray and skirts?

For front you will probably find it easier to remove the wheels but not necessary to use a ramp. Usual stuff about being careful when jacking car but I assume you don't need reminded.

Regards
