Body Shop Advice

As previously mentioned, my Silver Boxster S has sustained scratch damage (probably a vandals key) to 3 panels, the front and reaer wings as well as the door. Unfortunately its too larger job for Chipsaway as some of you had suggested to me. I have had one quote from a local guy to take it back and re-spray all 3 panels for just over £650, but you never really know quite how good they are!!

Has anyone had any expreience of body shop repairs at reasonable prices that they could recommend to me, ideally down South as I'm based in Southampton?

Can't stand to look at those scratches anymore, need to get this sorted soon!!

I would speak to someone you know locally who has had dealings with one.

Your local Porsche bodyshop will guarantee the work but if they are anything like mine it may take a few visits to get the work done to a standard that warrants a guarantee in the first place.

Just interested in good and bad body repairers. I have been having some real problems with quality issues at my OPC body shop. Just had it back in for four weeks to correct problems from a previous repair. The main fault is untouched, the Boxster S badge is missing, door alignment apaulling and winow seal still does not fit. Other than that, its OK.Frustrating.

Judging by your problems reported above the only difference between an OPC Approved Bodyshop and one that is not must be the prices being charged for the OPC Approval which would appear to be worthless. You must be will p*ssed off.com

I had issues with mine 2 years ago on to separate issues. One an insurance accident repair the other severe stone chips.

Car went back several times and I can still see areas that are not right!

We use to have a fleet of about 25 cars from Ford to Bentley and Porsche BMW Mercs in the mix too. Opposite us was a small Vauxhall Appproved body repairers with very basic equipment.

Eventually they had to modernise to keep the approval or close. They closed.

Over the years they did many repairs for us and I can only ever recall one car having to have some rectification works done, dirt in the paintwork. Generally they could colour and texture match with no probs and this was with pretty 2nd or 3rd rate kit.

We have had work done by officially approved high tech shops for Merc BMW & Lexus where everything was state of art and priced accordingly.

The cars which went to these shops nearly all required 2nd & in the Lexus case 3rd visits and the work was still not as good as the small old fashioned run down bodyshop opposite us [:(]

So from experiences over the years its the quality of the workman, and not the latest greatest equipment available, that has determined the final out come.

Hard call as we all want repairs to be invisible and aggro free no matter what the cost but this is very often not the case when using approved shops. The rules to be approved are very stringent but once approved keeping the standards up is often not the case!
