Body work repairs

Having very recently had the rear of my 944S2 rearranged by a 'Life Style vehicle', I now have to get it repaired...

The insurer's repairer is Solus in Heston, does anyone have any experience of them?

My usual port of call is Specialised Paintwork in Reading, who I am happy to recommend for restoration work etc. The problem is that insurance companies, whilst happy to let us use who we like tend to be a bit difficult about courtesy cars. So, it would be far more convenient, as my car is a daily driver, to go their route.

The sources I have asked so far have not heard of any problems with Solus, who are, after all, the official repairers. Unlike, Bodyworks, in Slough, who were also official repairers but were well know for not being able to match colours.

Look forward to hearing your experiences

Hi Colin

Have you tried contacting the insurance company and asking for their position regarding courtesy/hire cars. I have found that after a short session of refusals ( them refusing to supply/pay for a hire car and you refusing to accept their decision ) they will probably agree to your request as " an exceptional case ".

If it wasn't you fault they should hire you something, regardless, and claim it back from the fault party's insurer. Also it should be like for like. A mate of mine was given a Corsa when his Chimaera was rear-ended, so he kicked off. The result was 10 weeks use of a Jag XJR while his car went to blackpool for a new rear end - at £1,000 a week, all picked up by a scruffy Fiesta driver's third party insurance. It wasn't like for like but his parents were visiting from their temporary home in Singapore, so the 4 doors went down a treat.

Yes, an XJR would be nice! (A boxster even better).

I was offered an XJR for a repair a few years ago (I will have had my 944S2, in Guards, for 7 years in January), but my insurance company wanted to charge me extra for the privilage and I ended up with a Renault Megane Coupe, gastly![:-]

Noted about I should be able to hire something regardless if I kick up a stink.

Thanks[;)]
