Bodyshop for my 993

Hello all,

I need a bodyshop to spray my Midnight Blue 993, and was wondering who the more experienced chaps among us would recommend.
I took the car to 911 Bodyshop but unfortunately the insurance assessor and Chris couldn't agree. The car needs a respray as a result of vandal damage.
Any and all views would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Gerard.

Suggest ur insurer gets a grip , Chris is one of the best guys out there, he only needs to look around at whats in there ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,hes been doing it 20 years and is an absolute perfectionist with pure 911 experience . If they wont accept his estimates i wish u luck finding somone else !

I have been in the same position as I think you are in.

My 964RS was vandalised, keyed to be precise, with sratches to the engine cover, rear wing, door and front wing. Irrespective of which body shop I used, the story is the same. The insurer will only pay for the damaged areasto be repainted and blended in with the rest of the car. They won't even pay to have the whole of a panel repainted if they feel that the damage can be repainted and blended without doing the whole panel.

As for a respray, you stand very little chance, even if there is only one undameged panel left, unless it is cheaper to respray the whole car.

I took a lot of advice on this from brokers, my lawyer and even the insurance obudsman. My car is Guards Red and even if a good match was managed, you would see it a year later due to fading. That cut no ice. In fact, I learnt that some insurers have had such issues over the colour change of repairs they are now instructing repairers to paint using original colours with no adjustment for fading! They have had enough of the comebacks and now say they are returning the panel to original condition!

I do not believe you have a body shop issue. It is an insurance company issue. I believe your only option will be to get the insurance to pay for as much as possible and pay the rest yourself. My insurer paid about half the actual cost.

Just to add, I used Chris and he did a really great job, even in the very short time I gave him (complete respray, windows out etc.in 3 weeks over Christmas!!)

I have recently used Tony Littlejohn who is on 07980 874690. He did an excellent job doing bits and pieces on my 993 and was previously one of Porsche's leading paint technicians, technical trainer and advisor to the network for 14 years! He now works with his brother in premises with much lower overheads. He is in Sindlesham, Berks.
