Bodywork specialists?

Hi people

I live in the R8 Region and own a 1981 911 SC Targa with only 46,000 miles on the clock. I acquired her in April and have been making the most of the summer with her.

Now the days are drawing in my attentions are turning to what I can improve on the car. There are minor bodywork flaws in the usual places and I'm keen to get on top of them before they become a real problem.

Having spoken to some local (Sheffield) bodywork companies I'm not convinced they're the right people for the job. I don't want anyone dismantling my baby and not being able to reassemble her properly!

Does anyone know of a good body shop in our region (preferably in the north (Nottingham, Derby etc.), with a proven track record?

Thanks in advance
Marc

speak to Martin at Zentrum Tel:01159 613911 www.zentrum.co.uk they are at Carlton Nottingham, they have just sorted out some dents on the roofbar of my 993 targa. and they look after all my porsches.

Selbys of Nottingham, superb settup, proper job,Done paint- work on newer and Older Porsches for me,highly reccomend them.

I am in the market for some bodywork and Zentrum didn't really spring to mind. Although I seem to recall someone saying that they take cars to Selbys. Do they now have their own bodyshop?

Phil

I've had some bodywork done via Zentrum. They replaced the rear panel and bumper of my car after someone rear-ended me. The people Zentrum use are actually the same bodyshop Nottingham OPC use so they should be used to working with Porsches. The finish looks very good and still does 18 months on.

When it comes closer to the time that I get the full respray i'm going to shortlist a couple of shops and ask to be taken for a tour round their facilites. I'd be expecting to see a full sized spray booth with oven. There are so many bodyshops I've seen that don't have this facility and you just know that the job they'd do would probably be 100% spot on but there is a high risk of rust bubbles creeping up beneath the surface of the paint after a couple of years or so. Without a full size spray booth with heaters that bake the paint after it's applied you cannot guarantee that moisture hasn't been trapped in the paint.

Speak to Chris at GCR Central in Leicester (01162 780900 / 07710 150911).

They don't do bodywork themselves, but use an outside company who are excelent.. I know from speaking with Chris at GCR and looking at some of the cars he has in that their work is very good. I think Jason would probably agree that his 964RS which was recently re-built by them is painted to a very high standard, however I've only had a casual nose around his car while I was waiting for mine.. certainly looked very straight and shiny though!..

I know Leic is probably further than you want to travel, however I would say its worth travelling further to get a decent job done by someone you're happy with so don't restrict the field too much..

I had the driver's door repaired at Selbys in Nottingham, (who are the Porsche Approved repairers for this area), and they did a great job.

By the way Marc, did I see your car in Belper about a month ago? (Red 911 SC Targa)
