Boge or Bilstein for a 3.2?

Anyone had experience of fitting Bilstein's rather than going for replacement Boge inserts and new rears? Had full Bilstein set up on my 964 but ride was a tad on the firm side. Grateful for feedback

Cheers

Yes, I have Bilstein HDs. They are definitely firmer than 55,000 miles Boges that they replaced. They work ok with standard t-bars but the front HD inserts are IMHO a little firm for a perfect match with the std 18.8mm front t-bars - they seem perfect for 22mm t-bars. For track days they work very well with std t-bars. To be fair, you only notice the firmer ride on potholes, raised manhole covers, breaks in the tarmc and the like, a normal bump rather than sharp ridge is still just fine.

I also have the Bilstein HDs fitted to my 3.2 with standard torsion bars and agree that they can be a little harsh on bumpy roads especially at slower speeds. At higher speeds (ie on the motorway) they give the car a nice 'solid' feel and soak up the bumps quite well. I would say that they are on par with the KONI Sport adjustables (on their softest settings...) I had fitted prior to these Bilsteins.

If you aren't planning on doing many track days and/or tend to use your car as a daily driver I would save the cash and opt for the Boges. They are ideally suited to the standard torsion bars.

Richard, Anil,

Thanks for your input, which I value. Have to admit to being very tempted at US $489 a full set of Bilstein's via Pelican in the US. BUT, by going for Boge/Sacs, gas filled at around £256 from Eurocarparts just down the road, I can also budget for Turbo rods and track ends - a mod' I really do fancy doing. Rennlist and Pelican forums in the US rave about such an upgrade and at £85 plus the dreaded VAT, I'll have 10 pence worth of that.

Thanks again.

Dave
