Bonet/boot interior light switch

Hi,

Along with the oil level being on minimum when delivered... it looks like my 111 point 'pre-delivery inspection' missed the fact that the front boot/bonet interior light switch is broken. I thought it was just the lamp, so bought another one and swapped it out... only to find I'm still in the dark.

I've tried finding out where the switch is... am I being really dumb or is it well hidden?

Cheers

It's under here:

Paul,

I have looked under the bonnet and there doesnt appear to be a "manual" switch attached to the interior light. It just comes on automatically .... I assume it also goes off when I shut the bonnet [:D] .

[I can only assume that the switching of the bulb is driven off the bonnet sensors that detects when it is open?]

Apparently (and I can't say that I have looked myself) the switch is in the area of the bonnet catch, under the panel.
Got the same problem (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't), so I guess it's about time I pulled up the front to take a look.

I'll take a look tonight, may just need some good old WD40... it'll save a 45 minute drive to OPC Tonbridge.

I've bought OSRAM SILVERSTAR H7 bulbs and BLUEVISION W5W sidelights, so a night in the cold with numb fingers to look forward too.

Any "for god sake don't . . . . . " when changing the headlight bulbs... from how it looks you need to take the whole headlamp out to change them.

Cheers

Paul.

I replaced the headlamp bulbs last night and topped up the oil... the front boot courtesy light comes on when the rear engine cover comes up !!!

Is this normal ?

P.

I think I'd need to get someone to lock me in the luggage compartment and then open the engine cover for me to check this one out! [:D][:D]

I can tell you that the engine compartment light doesn't come on when you open the luggage compartment. It sounds like a dodgy earth somewhere.

Maybe it's different on the facelift.

How do you know if the luggage compartment light comes on if you open the engine cover, when the luggage compartment is closed? I have a similar worry about my fridge! [;)][;)]

In some cars the interior lights do come on with the bonnet or boot opened this is quite normal and has been for some time. Remember if the horn sounds when you are locking the car bonnet / boot / doors may not be closed properly but worst of all is that this also happens if the small glovebox behind the handbrake is not fully closed. Remember this can look closed but not. I can describe how to do a current drain test if you need to and it will definitely show if a light is on or something is using current when it should not be.This may not be the answer to your original question but at least it will take your mind off it for a while

I think the bonet switch is at fault here. I can lock the car as normal with the bonet open and the alarm sets as normal.

I'll add it to the list of things that need looking at under warantee.

You can see it through the slats in the engine cover / spoiler. Try it on a dark night !

I tried that, and the engine compartment light definitely doesn't come on whent the luggage compartment is opened. How do you know that the luggage compartment light comes on when you open the engine compartment? (ie, If the luggage compartment is closed, how can you see if the light comes on?) Like I say, it's the fridge light syndrome. [;)][;)]

I think my wife would be more than happy to slam the boot on my head if I asked her...

The whole 'buying a Porsche while we're bl00dy moving house' thing went down like a lead baloon.
