Bonnet adjustment

The bonnet on my 2.2 sits up a little on the drivers side (RHD) nearest the corner/fender area. I've tried releasing the three bolts holding the bonnet bracket to the body inner wing - but seems the lowest bolt has no adjustment. It seems to pivot around this lower bolt. Any ideas on how I can get the bonnet to sit lower? Many thanks

I have the same problem with my steel bonnet replacing the GRP one, both sides seem to be too high and the only way I can see to lower the bonnet is to file the lower hole into an oval shape, or into a slot, to lower the entire bracket. Any ideas welcome for me too?
 
Thanks Robin - I didn't think of that! I need to drop it about 5mil... I think I'd need to file down all three holes. I've not removed the bonnet - so not sure it how the nuts are held etc. I'm surprised Porsche haven't allowed for up/down adjustment. Not like the engineers to forget something like this. I suspect we're just being stupid and not understanding something....
 
Adjustment at the rear of the bonnet is done by shimming between the hinge and the bonnet. We have never had file out holes on the hinge, so I would suggest that your problem is elsewhere. GRP bonnets normally sit high as the struts are too powerful and push up the back of the lid, which is also not heavy enough to push down on the rubber around the luggage area. Never had the problem going the other way!

The problem I have is that the driver's side is up by 5mm. There are no shims between hinge and bonnet unfortunately. Mine's steel - and I think is in great shape - no damage.

Perhaps I need to provide some 'twist' into the bonnet? Would this cause the bonnet to re-shape and become lower? I'm ex-Rover/Jag - so very used to seeing this done on boots and bonnets on cars. I can't thing of anything else other than elongate the holes....

What do you think?

I seem to remember you can shim it to be lower as well as higher. Counter intuative I know but with the way the hinge is designed I think shimming the front bolt to the bonnet actually lowers it. If not try shimming the rear bolt instead.

Great tip Ian, I'll give it a go. As I said above, I'm sure the Porsche engineers must have given this some thought. I can't see them requiring filing of metal as way of adjustment....
 
Hi Nick, my GRP bonnet needed a few shims to bring it up to the height of the bodyline and the steel bonnet is high without any shims so I loosened the three bolts on the side fitting plates but still could not bring the bonnet low enough to be a good fit.
Incidentally the GRP bonnet was without gas struts, even old ones are too strong for the plastic, so I used an umbrella to keep the bonnet open.
 
I have lowered the bonnet on my '73 911S by removing the rear upper bolt from the hinge plate, loosening the other two and moving the plate forward, pivoting the mounting plate forward on its lower bolt and retightening the two remaining 13 mm bolts. the rear upper bolt now will not fit into its hole as the plate hole partly covers the threaded hole in the wing. Then, with protection on the scuttle where the pointed ends of the bonnet might touch, I loosened the bonnet to hinge bolts and moved the bonnet back on its bolts until the gap was correct The bonnet now fits the gap and is almost perfectly level with the top of the scuttle. I only have two bolts and two washers left over and the bonnet fits.
