Bonnet badge...grrrr!

Just about got all the work done on 'los beastious' done now (sills,rear spoiler and general cosmetics) and i decided in a fit of peak to replace the bonnet badge. Now i'm a proud owner of a new one.....how in the name of god do you get that infernal rubber gasket jobby to stay on whilst you refit the damn thing?

any advice would be greatly appreciated before i go headlong into john cleese mode and start beating the poor thing with a branch!![:D][:D][:mad:][&:]
 
I've never replaced the badge, but I imgaine the rubber fits to the crest then the whole thing to badge panel rather than the rubber to badge panel then the crest on top. If that's what you are trying to do then I'd agree with Kevin and say glue it, or use a couple of small sports of Blu-Tac or something.
 
Replaced the rubber on the 912 last year. It stretched around the badge and then the whole "assembly" fitted to the bonnet lid with the press fittings over the studs.

No problem at all. perhaps I was lucky![:)]

I have just repaced my bonnet badge.

I originally ordered one from Design911 but it was such poor quality and there was no way the gasket was ever going to fit round the badge properly.

I returned it and got one from OPC and the gasket fits perfectly (although it was twice the price, but well worth it i think).
 
I've done a few badges and it does seem to vary whether the gasket is a good fit or not. You can usually get the gasket to attach itself to the badge by forcing it on, but it does help with the frustration levels to get a couple of dabs of superglue on there sometimes.
 
I found it easier to warm up the gasket in hot water first so it's nice and stretchy. Dry it off and glue it to the back of the badge with evostick then fit both of them to the badge panel [:)]
 
I ahve just fitted one to a 944s. it was a Porsche Part and although I was ready with the superglue it went straight on. a bit of an anti-climax realy.

i think i'll try that paul or failing that its phils reccomendation and off to the OPC

I have done this very frustrating job on Tony's 944. I found that pressing the badge down very slowly and evenly and easing the rubber back into place as you go along did it. Patience is needed, you can do it!!!!!

Coincidentally I've removed my badge today.

As soon as it came free the gasket pinged off on to the garage floor [:mad:]

I've warmed it in water, stretched it and glued it back on ready for refitting later this evening. It had better not ping off again, or there will be trouble [8|]
 
I often removed mine when parked.

It takes about 5 seconds to fit.

1) push it on.

2) move gasket to correct position.

3)Push it in a bit more.

Just use the plastic grommets, if they want it they can have it..........without the expense of a new panel + paint & fitting.

Fitted sticker instead of badge on turbo, not touched since.

The wife must have a proper badge on the Lux........snob.

The Kids are selling the badges at school for £20.........I have thought of buying bulk and flooding the market......but I would get the sack and a mention in the Sunday press.

 
[:)]Sorry I do not know how to solve your gasket problem. However you was unlucky yesterday to be beat by our boys 1-0 at Hull! Do you think you will survive the championship? Regards, golfchampion
