bonnet badge

i'm getting the front end re-spreyed in a couple of weeks, and thought i might invest in a new bonnet badge to smarten the front

OPC sell them for £35 plus vat - am i likely to get it cheaper elsewhere ?

also, does the badge just clip on and off, or is is screwed on from underneath so that the panel has to come off to remove it?

Porsheshop do them for 19.80 plus vat etc.When i changed mine it was located with two "pins" and not screws.Had to take a bit of time with it though as the metal on the panel is quite thin and i was worried about denting it pushing the badge on.

just been on Clarks Garage Manual website and it says the badge can be held on with clips or screws. In the latter case, the front panel has to come off. How will i know how mine is held on?

I changed my badge when i fitted a k&n panel filter so killed two birds with one stone so to speak.You'll be able to see from the underside of the front panel how the badge is held on when you take it off.
To get the panel off you'll need to have the lights flipped "up", then gently remove the rubber "trim" piece and you should see 2 nuts and a bolt (the bolt is quite awkward to get at so mind the paintwork).Do this on both headlights.Then remove all the screws from along the top of the panel where it meets the bonnet.You should then be able to pull the panel forward gently and remove it.
 
It's easy to remove a Turbo/S2 badge panel, as 944cabby says above - it needs to be removed to change an S2 air filter element after all. The directions are good except to say that the bolt goes horizontally from the badge panel into the tip of the front wing and it's easy to miss that the first time.

i have had a quick look tonight and the nuts and screws that need to be removed look like they havent been touched for years, which then leads me to think that the air filter has never been changed.

how often should the air filter be changed?
 
12k or 12 months I believe. Could be longer with low use I guess but it's definitely 12k on the miles.

sorry to ask what is probably the obvious, but where would i get a new air filter from (Europarts perhaps?) and is it something i can change myself ?
 
As I recall the airbox lid literally unclips once the badge panel is off and it's just a panel filter element inside like any number of normal cars. [FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]ECP or OPC would be my suggestions as a parts source. Unless you want to fit a K&N that theoretically you don't touch for 100k miles.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
 
Yes filter's easy to do - just 3 clips to undo although the filter is quite long.
I have a k&n panel filter which has been on for about 8k miles, i think it was just over 50quid from my local motorworld.I cleaned it last week (although i didn't re-oil it) and i was very surprised how dirty it actually was.
In the instructions from k&n they state that a build up of dirt is better for the performance of the filter but mine was full of insects, moths etc that had been drawn into the airbox.Also the car seems to run smoother now since cleaning.

Take care when unscrewing the two nuts that secure the panel down on either side of the headlights - the thread that they screw on to is actually part of the front panel and they can actually snap off if you're a bit "heavy handed" - a good soak with WD40 will help.
 
After some B$st$rd removed mine with a screwdriver I got one of those stick on jobbies - looks good - and lighter too!
 
Just looking it your avatar - was it you on the A34 and at Silverstone 2 weeks ago? We chatted but didn't introduce ourselves.
 
I got a new bonnet badge from porscheshop.co.uk when I had my 968 resprayed, couldn't put the old faded badge back on!


 
I believe even the Porsche new ones will be a different colour from your worn one, given the age of the car [;)]
