Bonnet badge

hi,

this may be a stupid question but I would really appreciate your help! I recently bought a replacement bonnet badge for my 2000 c2 as it was looking shabby. my question is,
how do I get the old badge off? I only have a gasket and the badge so really I need to recycle whatever bolts are on the original badge if possible.

Any advice very appreciated!

Thanks

Sam

There are two self-tapping nuts which cut a thread on the pins on the back of the badge. You can undo them with a 10mm socket.

Top tip: Dunk the gasket in a cup of boiling water for a couple of minutes before you fit it. This makes it pliable and stretchy. Also, be careful not to do the nuts up too tight, as they strip the thread very easily.

Also be careful not to lose the nut out of the socket and inside the hollow strengthening members on the bonnet lid. They rattle about and drive you nuts trying to retrieve them.

You can guess how I know[]

Ok, so I must be doing something stupid here

I bought a 10mm socket, which is a hexagonal tool. The nut I am trying to undo seems considerably smaller, and also is round. There is no way this tool can undo that bolt.

Am i being stupid? Did I buy the wrong kind of 10mm socket?

Thanks in advance and apologies for my
Ignorance'

Well, it is definitely a hexagon nut, and I am 90% sure it is 10mm. I can't check it at the moment as my car is away having a suspension refurb.

This is what the manual says:

Thanks Richard.

A 10mm socket fits the bonnet catch fitting screws (number 4) on the diagram perfectly - so perhaps that has caused some confusion.

Of course I am trying to work out how to remove screws number 6... Tapping nuts? No idea what that means..

Sorry to be such a pain.. Hopefully someone will be along to help out a very un-practical person!! (me)

The "tapping nuts" are the pressed steel nuts as shown in the photo I posted above. They are formed to a hexagon (to fit a socket) and the centre hole is shaped to cut a thread on the pins which protrude from the bottom of the badge itself. When you buy them new (they usually come in the kit) they have a dollop of mastic on the bottom to create a seal (also shown in the photo). When I get my car back on Sunday, I'll check the socket size - unless someone else beats me to it. (Anyone?)
